Rangers were recently linked (Evening Times) with a move for Dumfermline Athletic’s striker Kevin Nisbet. The Scottish striker moved to the Championship outfit in the summer after he scored 34 goals for Raith Rovers in Scottish League One in the last campaign.
Nisbet talks about Rangers interest
Nisbet recently responded to the rumours linking him to Rangers. The striker insisted that Dunfermline are currently the right club for him even though he is flattered with Rangers’ interest. The 22-year-old said (Evening Times), ”Rangers is a massive club, so I want to keep doing what I’m doing. From there we’ll see what happens, really. I don’t support either of the big two, but I’ve got to think about the rest of my career. Right now at Dunfermline, it’s perfect; it’s where I want to be. We’ve got a good group of players.”
The Gers have two fantastic strikers in the form of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe. Hence, quite a few upcoming forwards would think twice before moving to Rangers as they would hardly get a look into the team unless there are injury and suspension concerns for the two.
Nisbet has managed 11 goals and five assists in 19 games this season, and he has transitioned smoothly from the Scottish third tier to the second. He would be keen to prove himself at the top, but for now, it seems like he is satisfied playing for Dunfermline.
As mentioned, Rangers have two terrific strikers, but beyond them, they are a bit thin as they didn’t go and replace Kyle Lafferty in the summer. Maybe Gerrard could allow Ryan Kent or Greg Stewart to lead the line if something was to happen with Morelos and Defoe.
What should Gerrard do?
Nisbet is showing impressive signs in the Championship, but Rangers should wait and watch him further before making a move for him. The striker is expectedly happy at Dunfermline at the moment as he is getting to play regular football and is scoring goals as well.
Rangers also have promising youngsters like Zak Rudden and Dapo Mebude. Rudden is currently on loan with English League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle. Rangers can afford to wait before making a move for a new striker as they are blessed with two reliable options. Nisbet still has a lot to prove, and he needs to carry on with his excellent form until the end of the season. Maybe then Rangers could consider moving in for him. As for now, we don’t see the Bears signing him up in January.
