Alfredo Morelos has been firing on all cylinders so far this season as he bagged a brace to put Rangers through to the League Cup finals. The Colombian has also seemingly improved his on-field behaviour as he has avoided having needless altercations with the referees and the opposition players.
The 22-year-old has been linked with quite a few clubs in the last few transfer windows. Morelos has also maintained that moving to the Premier League will be his dream. Given his quality and talent, even Rangers would be aware that the South American sensation will move on to bigger and better things in the future. Therefore they must be well prepared to lose him when that time comes.
Gerrard puts Morelos’ rumours to bed
Recently the striker went on to give an interview (Daily Record) where he hinted that he might be open to a January move as well if the right offer comes his way. That would be disastrous for Gerrard as losing his main striker midway through the campaign could derail his team’s title challenge. The manager though was quick to put the rumours regarding Morelos’ future to bed as he went on to claim that Morelos wouldn’t leave in January.
The English boss said (Daily Record), ”I’m not confident, I’m sure, I’m 100 per cent sure he’s not going anywhere.” That is undoubtedly an emphatic reply from Gerrard which will surely put the rumour mills to bed.
Should Morelos consider staying at Ibrox for this season?
Morelos has a chance to achieve something special at Ibrox this season. If Rangers go on to win their 55th title and end Celtic’s juggernaut of 8 consecutive title wins, the current crop of players will go into the club’s folklore. Morelos will undoubtedly have a significant role to play if Rangers go on to achieve something special.
They have already booked a place in the finals of the League Cup where they will square off against the Hoops. The chance to win the trophies should be enough to keep him at Ibrox for this season atleast.
Moving to say a Premier League club midway through the campaign will sour his relationship with the fans and club. He might even risk losing playing minutes if things go south at his future destination. If the striker can continue to flourish in the next six months, then his transfer price could also go up, and maybe some of the football heavyweights might become interested in him. Therefore even from Morelos’ point of view, staying at Rangers for the season makes sense. He is still just 22; hence, he has enough time in his hand to go and play in one of the bigger leagues in the future.
