Manchester United travelled to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth under some terrible weather conditions. The Manchester heavyweights succumbed to their fourth defeat of the season in the Premier League as they lost by a 1-0 scoreline.
The away side started well with Daniel James, creating some half chances early on in the game. The Cherries though soon began to threaten on the counter. The game was evenly matched in the first half. Josh King gave the home side the lead just before half time as he brought the ball down brilliantly and worked his way out to score the opener.
Bournemouth had some excellent chances to make it 2-0, but United found a way to soak the pressure. United didn’t threaten much in the second half, and their only sustained pressure came in the last ten minutes of the game. Substitute Greenwood hit the post from a tight angle. However, Howe’s men deserved the three points on their overall display.
Here is how Solskjær’s men fared on the day.
David De Gea 6
Was beaten from close quarters for Bournemouth’s goal. Made a few important interventions and saves to keep his side in the game.
Harry Maguire 4
Looked a bit off pace during the game. Won some duels but looked lethargic throughout the game.
Victor Lindelof 3
Never looked settled and was all over the place. Gave away a few poor fouls. His positioning was questionable.
Ashley Young 5
His deliveries from set-pieces were decent. Wasn’t able to get much joy while going upfront. Did alright overall.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 4
Gave far too much time to King to bring down the ball for the first goal and he could have been much tighter to him. Made some of his typical last ditched tackles but will be disappointed for his work in Bournemouth’s goal. Hardly offered anything worthwhile going forward.
Scott McTominay 4
Was trying to be everywhere on the pitch but lacked quality. Worked hard but couldn’t create anything meaningful. Was sloppy on occasions in possession.
Fred 4
Again no guile and creativity from the midfielder. Moved the ball well from time to time but nothing meaningful. His tame shot, in the end, summed up his game.
Daniel James 6
Has been the most threatening player in the attacking third this season and it continued in this game as well. Looked bright early on and created some decent chances. Faded as the game went on.
Andrea Pereira 2
Had some good chances in the first half but he fluffed his line. Still isn’t clear what he exactly offers on the pitch. Woeful performance overall.
Marcus Rashford 5
Was marshalled well by the Bournemouth defence. Never really got a chance to run at them and Ole’s men didn’t create any clear cut opportunities for the English attacker. Did work hard and kept the defenders occupied.
Anthony Martial 4
Played upfront but wasn’t able to get into good scoring positions. Trying to buy a cheap penalty in the first half was his only meaningful contribution on the pitch.
Substitutes
Jesse Lingard 4
Ran around after coming on but no real quality.
Mason Greenwood 6
Came close to scoring when he hit the post.
Brandon Williams N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
