According to a recent report by BBC, Everton manager Marco Silva took charge of training as usual on Tuesday and will likely remain in his position heading into the trip to Leicester City this weekend. Most of the Merseyside club’s supporters are calling for Silva to get fired after a run of poor results in the Premier League this season. However, it seems like the Portuguese head coach will survive the sack this week as the Toffees hope to cause a monumental upset by beating the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
Silva’s Underwhelming Record As The Everton Boss
Since arriving at Goodison Park in the summer of 2018, Silva has taken charge of 59 matches for the Merseyside outfit, winning 25, drawing 11 and losing 23 of those games. On average, he has picked up 1.46 points per match which is not good enough for an ambitious club like Everton (stats via transfermarkt).
The Toffees are currently sitting in 16th place in the league standings, just four points above 18th-placed Norwich City, the final team in the dreaded relegation zone. At the moment, Silva is living on borrowed time as he is struggling to turn things around for the better in England. The Lisboa-born manager has failed to get the best out of his players and seems to have lost the confidence of his dressing room.
Did The Toffees Make The Right Call By Not Sacking Silva This Week?
Even though Silva is known for his attacking brand of football, he has failed to implement his strategies effectively at Goodison Park. The Portuguese boss has also been guilty of not getting the best out of the strikers at his disposal. Both Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean has been major disappointments at Merseyside this season which has not helped Silva’s cause.
Unless the 42-year-old can pull off a miracle, he is likely going to part ways with the Toffees sooner rather than later. If Everton’s performances over the past few weeks are anything to go by, then the chances are that the club could be dragged into a relegation dogfight if they are too afraid to make a managerial change right now.
The Everton board cannot afford to waste any more time as the situation is gradually taking a turn for the worse. They need to find a suitable replacement for Silva as soon as possible so that the Blues of Merseyside can get the new man in and hopefully gain some momentum heading into the busy festive period when the fixtures come thick and fast in English football.
