According to a recent report by The Athletic (subscription needed), Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had sent his personal scout, Simon Wells to catch Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland in action in the UEFA Champions League this season. In an interview with talkSPORT earlier this month, the Norwegian striker’s father, Alf-Inge revealed that his son would fancy a move to the Premier League someday when he said, ‘I think at one stage he would like to play in the Premier League. When that’s going to happen, I don’t know. It’s a very tough league.’
Haaland’s Spectacular Rise In European Football
Haaland will be an excellent signing for the Red Devils if they can pull off a deal to bring him to Old Trafford. The 19-year-old frontman has broken out as a prolific goal-scorer for Salzburg this season. He has been enjoying an incredible goal-scoring run across all competitions which has enhanced his reputation in European football.
The former Molde youngster has netted 26 goals and provided six assists in 18 appearances for the Austrian champions on all fronts this term. Haaland’s form in the UEFA Champions League has been exemplary after he scored seven times in four group-stage matches thus far.
The Norwegian marksman has been a joy to watch during this campaign, but he needs a bigger platform so that he can compete with the best players and prove his worth at the highest level. At such a young age, Haaland has already managed to earn two international caps for Norway but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his homeland.
What Are The Norwegian Rising Star’s Best Attributes?
Haaland is a mobile centre-forward who can make a few clever runs behind the opposition half. He can be a real handful for any defender as he has the strength and aggression to win aerial duels quite often in the final third. The Norway international has good football IQ, which helps him be in the right place at the right time to finish off a scoring chance inside the opposition penalty box.
Will Haaland Be An Ideal Fit For The Mancunian Outfit?
Now that Haaland has converted himself into a consistent goal-scorer, there will likely be no shortage of interest from other top clubs across Europe. Solskjaer’s side are crying out for a new centre-forward following the departure of Romelu Lukaku earlier this year. The Red Devils are yet to find a suitable replacement for the Belgian forward.
Both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have struggled to find consistency in terms of goal-scoring this season whenever they have been tasked to lead the charge as a centre-forward up top. Therefore, Haaland’s acquisition could be a solution to all of Solskjaer’s attacking woes at the Theatre of Dreams.
