According to a recent report by Diario de Valladolid (translated by the Daily Mail), Manchester United are looking to acquire the services of Mohammed Salisu from Real Valladolid. The same source has claimed that the Red Devils scouts were left impressed by the Ghanaian youngster’s performances and are considering whether to activate the £10m release clause in his contract. Furthermore, the player’s agent is Juan Mata’s father, so the Mancunian side has deemed him as an affordable option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to consider in the upcoming transfer windows (via Diario de Valladolid).
Salisu’s Majestic Rise In Spanish Football
The talented centre-back came through the youth ranks of Valladolid before making an impact in the La Liga this season. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a majestic start to this campaign and has put in a string of solid defensive displays at the heart of Sergio Soriano’s backline.
Salisu has featured in 14 matches for the Spanish outfit this term and has scored one goal in the process. He is averaging 1.2 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 4.8 clearances per game in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored). However, those numbers are surely going to go up if he is surrounded by better players at a top club like Man United.
Hence, the Ghanaian defensive ace could benefit from switching clubs so that he can test himself against the best players in European football. However, Salisu is still quite inexperienced and is yet to be tested outside Spain. One might question whether he is good enough to find success at Old Trafford.
What Are The Ghanaian Starlet’s Best Attributes?
Salisu is a dominant presence at the back as he can overpower the opposition using his incredible strength and knack for winning headers. The Ghanaian prospect can also make some vital clearances for his side as he is excellent at reading danger inside his own half. However, he has only 16 senior appearances to his name so he won’t be an ideal solution for Solskjaer’s defensive woes at the Theatre of Dreams.
Is Salisu The Right Choice For The Red Devils?
Man United will be better off opting for a more proven defender than Salisu. Even though the 20-year-old is a promising talent, the fact remains that he is untested at the highest level and would need time to develop his game before he is ready to play for a top European club.
Solskjaer should consider focussing on some of his other transfer targets as Salisu is not the right choice for the Mancunian club at this moment.
