According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have been monitoring the progress of West Bromwich Albion wide player Matheus Pereira, who is playing on loan from Sporting CP.
The same source has mentioned that the Man United scouts have been left impressed by the Brazilian playmaker’s stellar performances in the EFL Championship this season. Even though West Brom have the option to sign Pereira permanently for £8.25m, it won’t put off the player’s other potential suitors (via the Daily Mirror).
Pereira’s Impressive Start To This Season
The 23-year-old has begun this campaign on fire after putting in some terrific match-winning displays for the Baggies so far. He has scored three goals and grabbed nine assists in 15 matches for the West Midlands outfit this term across all competitions.
The Brazilian talent is averaging 1.9 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the English Championship (stats via whoscored). His magnificent contributions have helped Slaven Bilić’s side climb to the top of the league standings. The Baggies have a two-point lead over second-placed, Preston North End having played 16 league matches thus far.
What Will The Brazilian Wing Wizard Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Pereira is a moderately paced winger who can make some penetrative runs down the right flank. He is also versatile enough to play on the other side as a left-winger or assume the duties of an attacking midfielder down the middle if required. The Brazilian has shown a lot of growth with his performances this season and has gradually transformed himself into a productive playmaker at the Hawthorns.
Pereira has set-up nine goals for the Baggies this term which means that he has the potential to add some much-needed creativity to the Man United attack if allowed to prove his worth at Old Trafford someday. Furthermore, the South American sensation can also contribute by scoring the odd goal from time to time.
Should The Red Devils Make A Move For Pereira?
Acquiring a player of Pereira’s skillset could turn out to be an intelligent move for the Red Devils. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League. Solskjaer should undeniably focus on bringing in an inventive player like Pereira as the Man United midfielders have often struggled to create chances going forward during this campaign.
