According to a recent report by Sky Sports, Premier League champions Manchester City are said to be considering the acquisition of French international winger Kingsley Coman, with a view of him potentially replacing Leroy Sané in the City squad. The Frenchman had played under the managership of Guardiola back when they were both at Bayern, and it has been suggested that the manager is keen on a reunion.
What Is Leroy Sané’s Situation At Manchester City?
The German international speedster has been one of Pep Guardiola’s preferred wingers at the Etihad over the last couple of seasons but has recently fallen out of contention, owing to an unfortunate ACL injury he picked up in August. Since starting in the FA Community Shield prior to the official commencement of the league campaign, the German is yet to feature for the Citizens. He is slowly slipping in the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
He was subject of a lot of transfer speculation last season after former Bayern Munich manager Nico Kovac openly declared that they were after the Manchester City winger, as was conveyed by Sky Sports earlier in the year. The fact that he has been ruled out for seven months starting from August certainly hasn’t helped his cause either.
What Has Kingsley Coman Achieved At Bayern Munich?
The Frenchman was originally a product of the PSG academy but only found fame after making his first-ever transfer to Italian champions Juventus. After he spent a two-year loan spell away from Turin at Bayern Munich, the Germans were so impressed with the youngster’s displays that they decided to sign him permanently.
After making the switch to the German champions though, there’s been no stopping the Frenchman’s development. Now 23, he has become a regular in the Bayern side, especially because of the departures of legendary wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. He has played in 139 matches for the German club and has a decent return of 28 goals and 33 assists.
What Would Kingsley Coman Add To The Manchester City Team?
The Frenchman is a pace and tricky winger, who isn’t afraid to take on and beat a man if the situation calls for it. Although he might’ve looked like a slightly immature player a couple of years ago, the rate at which he has grown into the role at Munich is impressive to see. His attitude, while out on the pitch, has unquestionably improved, and his contributions have become more telling as well.
He can operate out of either flank but does prefer the left side because it provides him with the option of cutting in and taking a shot on with his stronger right foot. He has developed into a good finisher in the opposition box, and he works hard while tracking back and helping out in defence as well. A lot like Sané in his style of play, the Frenchman would certainly be an upgrade on the German, at least in terms of general attitude.
Would This Be A Good Coup By Manchester City?
The Citizens, despite looking like the most stacked team in the whole continent, have struggled at times this season, albeit mostly defensively. The fact that Raheem Sterling can’t keep delivering the goods every weekend is sure to keep Pep Guardiola awake at night. The addition of Coman to this City side would be a massive move indeed, and the 23-year-old could really flourish in the fast-paced action of the Premier League.
