Currently sitting pretty just off the top of the Premier League table, Leicester City picked up yet another inspiring home victory by beating struggling Arsenal by a 2-0 scoreline at the King Power Stadium. Although the Foxes were the better team for the whole game, they couldn’t find anything to show for it in the first half. They came out looking like a house on fire in the second half and simply ripped the Gunners defence to shred at will. Jamie Vardy and James Maddison got the goals as Leicester displace Chelsea and move back into second place behind Liverpool.
Here are the Leicester City players rated from their emphatic win over Arsenal.
Kasper Schmeichel – 6.5
Other than the fluffed effort from Lacazette which he collected with ease, the Danish international was untroubled for the entirety of the game. He distributed the ball well.
Ricardo Pereira – 7
Bombarded down the right flank on every opportunity that was afforded to him and caused the Gunners defence all kinds of problems. Was always an option out on the far side.
Jonny Evans – 7
The Englishman has been a hallmark of composure so far this season, and apart from a couple of loose moments in the first half, he used his experience fully.
Caglar Soyunçu – 7.5
The youngster was like a brick wall at the back as he gave Aubameyang no pace in the final third. He was constant bullying the Gunners attackers off the ball and ensured safety in the box as well.
Ben Chilwell – 6.5
The Englishman wasn’t his usual influential self tonight, but like the rest of the Leicester players, he put in quite a shift down the left flank and was deserving of all three points.
Wilfred Ndidi – 7.5
This midfield destroyer is slowly developing into one of the strongest midfielders in the Premier League. He rifled a shot off the bar in the first half but focused mainly on his defensive duties.
Ayoze Perez – 6
Although the Spaniard showed glimpses of quality in the opening stages, as the game wore on, his influence began to depreciate. Was subbed off rightly by Brendan Rodgers in the second half.
Youri Tielemans – 8
Played a massive part in both goals as he set up the first one for Vardy on a plate. The Belgian is further proving his quality with every game he plays for the Foxes this season.
James Maddison – 8
The Englishman was forced to drop deep to pick up the ball owing to Arsenal’s negative approach to the game. He took his goal superbly and controlled the pace of the game with Ndidi’s help.
Harvey Barnes – 6
Had a highly ineffective game on the flank for Rodgers. Once he was taken off, the change in energy in the Foxes was palpable. A willing and strong runner at times.
Jamie Vardy – 9
Jamie Vardy is scoring goals for fun again, and the ‘Vardy Party’ mood is back at the King Power Stadium. If he continues this fine form, Leicester will remain underdogs to the title.
Substitutes
Demarai Gray – 7
Added some life into the Leicester City side as the Gunners began to come back into the game. Did well to keep Kolasinac occupied defensively in the final stages of the game.
Dennis Praet – 6
Didn’t have quite the impact he might’ve been hoping for, but was certainly an upgrade on Harvey Barnes’ performance tonight.
