Leicester City clashed heads with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park earlier today hoping to keep pace with the league leaders, Liverpool and the Premier League champions, Manchester City at the top of the league standings. The Foxes began the match in a dominant fashion but couldn’t capitalise on the goal-scoring chances they created in the first half.
The West Midlands outfit finally made the breakthrough via Caglar Söyüncü’s powerful header in the 57th minute. Jamie Vardy made the points secure in the 88th minute to put the icing on the cake of another excellent victory for Brendan Rodgers’ men on the road. The final score read 2-0 in favour of Leicester after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Leicester City player performed during the match against the Eagles.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 7/10
The Leicester keeper made a couple of routine saves and was dominant when collecting the ball in the air. He kept a comfortable clean sheet at the back, much to the delight of the away supporters.
RB: Ricardo Pereira – 7/10
Pereira deserves a lot of credit as he found a way to neutralise the threat of Wilfried Zaha out on the wide areas. However, he was not his usual self going forward.
CB: Jonny Evans – 6/10
The former Manchester United defender made a few vital clearances for his side but got cautioned for a rash tackle on Cheikhou Kouyaté.
CB: Caglar Söyüncü – 8/10
The Turkish centre-back made the all-important breakthrough in the 57th minute when he found the back of the net with a powerful header. He was a commanding presence inside his own penalty area and did well to secure a shut-out away from home.
LB: Benjamin Chilwell – 7/10
The English full-back worked his socks off as he made some driving runs down the left flank. He was unfortunate to hit the post during the latter stages of the contest.
CDM: Onyinye Wilfred Ndidi – 6/10
He was sloppy with his passing in the first half. However, Ndidi recovered well to put in a much-improved display in the second.
RM: Ayoze Pérez – 6.5/10
The ex-Newcastle United star linked up play well with others around him but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Youri Tielemans – 6.5/10
The Belgian was a bit untidy early on but put in a matured display once he settled into the rhythm of the game.
CM: James Maddison – 8/10
His delivery from set-pieces was always on the money. Maddison also got a deserved assist to show for his efforts. It was another memorable display from the Foxes rising star.
LM: Harvey Barnes – 6/10
Barnes was full of tricks and flash but had no end product. He gave away the ball away quite a few times and struggled to get going in the final third.
ST: Jamie Vardy – 7/10
The English striker squandered a great opportunity in the first half, which led to the home supporters taunting him. However, he made up for his miss by scoring his tenth goal of this campaign in the 88th minute.
Substitutes:
RM: Demarai Gray – 7/10
He came off the bench to set-up Vardy’s goal.
CB: Wes Morgan – N/A
The experienced defender did not have enough time to make an impact.
CM: Dennis Praet – N/A
He came on to run the clock down for the visitors.
