According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Liverpool are one of the clubs looking to acquire the services of Napoli wide player Lorenzo Insigne. The same source has revealed that the Italian winger is rated at £55m and has been subject of prior interest from the Reds. However, it is believed that the Merseyside giants will face stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan in pursuit of the Serie A sensation (via the Daily Mail).
Insigne’s Sparkling Form At Naples This Season
The 28-year-old has made an impressive start to this campaign even though his team has not fared too well in the Italian top-flight so far. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are currently occupying the 7th spot in the league table, a massive 13 points behind the league leaders, Juventus.
The Frattamaggiore-born talent has netted four goals and grabbed six assists in 14 appearances for the Naples outfit this term in all competitions. Insigne is averaging 2.4 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the top tier of Italy (stats via whoscored). He has also represented the Italian national team in 33 international fixtures, scoring six goals for his country in the process.
The Napoli youth product has been a key member of Ancelotti’s first-team and has raised his game to another level since the Italian head coach’s arrival last year. The talented attacker’s recent contributions have increased his stock significantly across Europe.
What Will The Italy International Bring To Merseyside?
Insigne is one of the quickest players in Italian football and can beat any defender using his burst of pace down the wide areas. He excels at dribbling with the ball and doesn’t mind interchanging passes with others around him. The Italian star has also shown over the past few years that he can play the killer ball in the final third which explains why he has got six assists to his name this season.
The 28-year-old wing wizard will be an excellent fit for Jurgen Klopp’s brand of football at Anfield. He is a creative presence down the flanks and also has the speed to be a potent threat on the counter. He is versatile enough to play as a secondary striker if required.
Insigne might not be guaranteed regular first-team football at Anfield as the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have become nailed-on starters in Klopp’s senior side. However, he will have a more realistic chance of winning trophies if he decides to join the six-time European champions in the coming years.
