According to the reports from Sports Bild as cited by Daily Mail, Liverpool are interested in making a move for Valencia winger Ferran Torres. Clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are also said to be monitoring Torres’ situation. The 19-year-old’s current contract keeps him with the La Liga outfit until 2021.
It is believed that if Valencia are unable to get him on a new contract by next summer, then Torres could be available for as little as £17m. That price could tempt Liverpool to make a move for him as Klopp is said to be keen on attacking reinforcements. Torres is also one of the 20 nominees for this year’s Golden Boy award.
Does Liverpool need attacking reinforcements?
The Reds have arguably got the best front three in world football right now as the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino complement each other really well. There have been worries regarding Liverpool’s depth up top, but given their front three versatility, each one of them can interchange positions between each other quite easily. Divock Origi has been Klopp’s go-to attacker if one of the front three gets injured. Moreover, the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino are supremely fit athletes who haven’t missed a lot of games in the last few years.
There have been some rumours that Xherdan Shaqiri could leave Liverpool in January so the Reds could require a backup option for the right flank.
What can Torres bring to the table?
The Spaniard is still a relatively raw talent with an abundance of potential. His numbers for Valencia aren’t too eye-catching as he has three goals to his name along with five assists in 63 appearances. However, given his high ceiling of potential, the 19-year-old is worth considering for the mentioned price of £17m.
Torres’ standout asset is his electric pace, and he can trouble quite a few defenders in the Premier League using his quickness. The Spaniard is also known for impressive work rate, which is almost a pre-requisite if a player wants to thrive in Klopp’s system. His decision making and the final product still need improving, but that can gradually come with more experience.
Concerns for Liverpool?
Liverpool need to hope that Torres doesn’t go on to sign an extension with Valencia which will undoubtedly push his price up. The Spaniard could also be worried about moving to Anfield because his game time could suffer given the success of the current front three of the Reds.
