According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Italian Serie A outfit Napoli are currently undergoing an internal crisis, wherein the players have begun to clash with the back-room management team. Although the club hierarchy have attempted to resolve the issue over the last couple of days, the Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has threatened to ‘sell the whole squad’ if things don’t go back to normal in the coming days.
While this could be gutting news to Napoli fans and followers of Italian football in general, it could come as one of the biggest positives of the year for some of the continent’s bigger clubs. With the owner’s threat to disband the squad still hanging over their heads, multiple players could decide to pursue their future elsewhere. It has been suggested in the report that star man Lorenzo Insigne could be one of the first ones out of the club, with European champions Liverpool being touted as a possible suitor.
How Did Lorenzo Insigne Make A Name For Himself?
The 28-year-old from the Italian riviera of Frattamagiore began his career with the Napoli academy and has been a member of the I Ciucciarelli squad in some capacity, for a very long time now. He joined the club as a little boy all the way in 2006. Although it took a couple of loan spells for Insigne to really announce himself in Naples, when he returned, he instantly became a favourite within the fans. This was mainly because Insigne was a Naples born and bred teenager.
After returning to I Ciucciarelli in the summer of 2012, there’s been no stopping the Italian international. Over the years, the 28-year-old has gone on to play more than 300 matches for the Neapolitan club and has an excellent return of 81 goals and 72 assists. With ten goals in 28 appearances in the Champions League as well, there’s no need to question his ability to deliver at the biggest stage. The Italian has picked up 33 national caps as well over the years, scoring six goals.
What Makes Insigne Am Exciting Option For Liverpool?
One of the many players in this Napoli side who can play a variety of positions, Insigne has often been used as a wide man by the Serie A club. He can be prolific goalscorer when operating out of a striker’s role and can be the ideal playmaker if he’s allotted the number ten role, just in behind the main striker. He works hard for the team and will follow instructions to the tee.
If Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team had to be described in one word, it would have to be ‘well-drilled’. The German has brought together a group of players who are willing to go to any lengths to keep the honour of the club upon a pedestal. In this regard, Insigne could be an ideal signing for Klopp and his team. He is adept at link-up play and renowned for the little flicks and tricks that he can pull off. Overall, he would complement the skill-sets of the other Liverpool attackers exceptionally well.
Could Liverpool Get Their Man In The Winter?
The situation in Naples has not improved over the last 24 hours, and with just a week left for league football to re-commence, the amount of time that the Napoli chiefs have to sort this calamity is minimal. Insigne has been the heart and soul of this Neapolitan football club for many years now, but with things now seemingly crumbling down around him, a move to Liverpool does begin to make sense. From the Reds’ point of view, there’s no doubt that this would be a coup and a half indeed.
