Celtic will host Rennes at Parkhead in their next round of fixture in the Europa League. The reigning Scottish champions have already booked a place in the knockout stages, and Lennon would now be keen to ensure that his side finishes at the top so that they can get a favourable draw in the next round.
Rennes have surprisingly been the whipping boys of Group E so far as they have managed just one point, which came against Celtic when the French opponents drew at their home. With Rennes not in contention to qualify, even the Ligue 1 team might put up a changed side for this encounter. Cluj are right on Celtic’s heels on the group table as they have 9 points and we could have a tight race for a top place finish.
Lennon could likely give some chances to some of the fringe members of the squad. The manager had indicated the same earlier and said (Celtic View, Volume 55, Issue 19, Page 8),” It would be great to win the group, and we’ll try to finish with as many points as possible. But with the huge amount of games we have between now and the break, it’s imperative that we use the squad.”
Team News: Jonny Hayes is the latest player to join the injury list as he injured himself against Livingston. Scott Bain, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jozo Simunovic are expected to miss out. Michael Johnston is closing in on a return, but this game would come too soon for him. Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo is also a significant doubt.
Celtic Predicted Lineup vs Rennes
Formation (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Fraser Forster is expected to keep his place in goal. Christopher Jullien should start at the back. Kristoffer Ajer could be given a breather, and Nir Bitton might feature in the heart of the defence. With Hayes also now joining the injury list, Greg Taylor is expected to feature at left-back. Young Jeremie Frimpong could continue at right-back.
Midfield
Scott Brown is likely to keep his place in the middle. Olivier Ntcham could partner him in midfield instead of Callum McGregor. Ryan Christie could also be rested as he has played plenty of games so far and Tom Rogic could feature as the attacking midfielder. Lewis Morgan might take up the left-wing spot in this tie. James Forrest is expected to keep his place as the right-winger.
Attack
With Leigh Griffiths back in the frame, this could be a good game to give him a run into the team from the start. Celtic should keep Odsonne Edouard under wraps with the League Cup final coming.
