According to a recent report by the Daily Record, all rumours about Premier League outfit Leicester City being interested in signing Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, have now been dismissed by Rangers. It was suggested that the Foxes were also potentially lining up a bid for Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer, with a view of him eventually replacing the void left by Harry Maguire at the heart of the Foxes defence line. This report though has clarified any doubts regarding the Foxes’ transfer plans, dismissing any talk at this stage as just rumours, and suggesting that there is no substance to any of these claims.
Although the Foxes were initially touted to be extremely keen on the notorious attacker, the Gers seem to have made their stand clear. The Gers’ sporting director Ross Wilson even confirmed that their most important player would be not sold and he was quoted to have said that he was “100 per cent sure”. They have come out and stated that none of their star players will be leaving in the summer and that they will look to challenge Celtic to the title, all the way until the end of the season.
How Have Leicester City Fared So Far This Campaign?
The Foxes have unquestionably been the surprise package of the Premier League season so far. What’s interesting to remember is that the last time they got off to a start like this, they never ended up dropping off. Although things are a lot more difficult now with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp involved in the title race as well, the form with which the Foxes have started is sure to fill Brendan Rodgers with tons of confidence.
They currently find themselves in 2nd place, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham, all behind them on the league table. They have been on a four-game win streak in the league – a period during which they’ve now scored 15 goals and conceded just the one. Rodgers’ men are also represented well concerning all the other statistics as well. With 29 goals to their name and having conceded just eight times in 12 league games, they are second behind only City in the scoring charts while they lead the league’s defensive charts.
What Do The Foxes Currently Have Going For Them?
Although the Foxes don’t have the same level of resources or players like some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, the sheer heart and desire that Rodgers has managed to instil into the side is truly remarkable. Defensively, they’ve been beyond solid, and the centre-half pairing of Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyunçu has been doing real wonders. Ben Chilwell and Ricardo Pereira have both picked up where they left off last season, proving to be key cogs in the Leicester system.
The offensive phase is where the Brendan Rodgers effect is apparent to see. There seems to be a general flow about every attack that this Foxes side creates, and with players like Demarai Gray and Dennis Praet having to do with places on the bench, Rodgers can confidently say that he has enough attacking depth to sustain the form. Jamie Vardy, despite being 32, seems to have found a new sense of life as well, making them an even bigger threat than usual.
Do Leicester Have What It Takes To Keep Up The Pace Till The End Of The Season?
As things stand, the Foxes are the team to beat in the Premier League. Their most recent victory against Arsenal must be perceived as a statement to the rest of the league about the threat that they possess. As long they’re able to keep key names like James Maddison and Youri Tielemans off the injury table, there’s no reason the Foxes cannot keep challenging for the title come the end of the campaign.
