According to a recent report by Spanish outlet ABC, Premier League high-flyers Leicester City secured the signing of former Newcastle United man Ayoze Perez, from right under the noses of La Liga outfit Valencia. During the interview, he went on to say that although the interest from Spain was tempting, owing mostly to the fact that he missed the food, Brendan Rodgers project at Leicester City was too exciting to turn down.
He went on to explain that Brendan Rodgers is a proper tactician who understands what is required in each part of the pitch. He also said that he is extremely happy with the change that he’s made, mainly because he’s enjoying the football now. He feels like he is playing with a lot more confidence, because of the creative freedom that comes with playing in Brendan Rodgers’ setup.
What Has Ayoze Perez Achieved In The Premier League?
The 26-year-old was a product of the Tenerife academy – hailing from the same Canarian region that has managed to produce players like David Silva. After a long spell with his hometown club’s academies, it was in 2012 that he was finally promoted into Tenerife’s first-team setup. He played a total of 41 times for the Canarian outfit’s first team and managed to pick up 16 goals along the way as well.
It was in 2014 that the youngster was recognised as a potential talent and brought to the Premier League by his former employers Newcastle United. Although he made the move almost five years ago, he was always a constant in Magpies first-team picture, having played in 195 competitive matches in front of the Toon Army. He picked up an impressive return of 48 goals and 17 assists for his efforts as well.
What Could’ve Motivated Leicester City Target The Spaniard?
Deceptively tricky on the ball, the former Tenerife Star is one of the most naturally talented players in the entire league. Perez seems to be one step ahead of most defenders on his day and has an extremely convincing finishing under his belt as well. Although he isn’t very big in stature, he is quite strong for his size, and certainly isn’t afraid to go into a tackle. The former Newcastle man’s overall dynamism and driving runs forward are most probably what triggered the Leicester interest.
Was Brendan Rodgers Making A Good Decision By Signing Ayoze Perez?
The Spaniard certainly didn’t hit the ground running at the King Power Stadium after his move, but has slowly begun to have a bigger and bigger influence as the games go by. His forty-minute hat-trick against Southampton a couple of weeks ago was but a small indicator of his true capabilities.
With guidance from an experienced and tactically astute manager like Brendan Rodgers, there’s no reason for the Foxes to regret signing this talented Canarian.
