Rangers will take on Hearts of Midlothian in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals this weekend at Hampden Park. The Bears are coming into this game after demolishing Ross County in the midweek Premiership tie. Rangers are currently level on points with Celtic on the table, and the title race seems to be heating up.
Premiership might be a priority, but Rangers would like to break Celtic’s monopoly in the cup competitions as well. Last time, Gerrard failed to reach the finals of either of the two domestic cups, and the English manager would love to change that this Sunday.
Hearts meanwhile are going through a crisis as Craig Levein was sacked as a manager just a few hours ago. The Jambos are currently sitting 11th on the table, and only goal difference is keeping them away from the bottom spot for the time being. Rangers, therefore, will have a chance to pile more misery on their rivals as things don’t look right for Hearts at the moment.
Team News: First choice goalkeeper Allan McGregor is a significant doubt for this clash. Ryan Kent was not included in the matchday squad against Ross County, but it was more down to managing his fitness. We expect him to be available for selection in the semi-finals. Jordan Jones is yet to recover from his injury, and he will miss out again. Borna Barisic is also doubtful after he limped off in the midweek game.
Rangers Predicted Lineup Vs Hearts
Formation (4-3-3-)
Defence
Wes Foderingham will continue in goal for the Gers. Connor Goldson is a regular in defence, and he will play in the centre back role again. Nikola Katic could be given a chance to start in place of Helander. James Tavernier will be in his usual right-back spot. If Barisic is unable to recover, then Andy Halliday could start at left-back.
Midfield
Steven Davis got his rest against Ross County, and he will return to start in midfield. Ryan Jack is also a nailed-on starter in the middle. The other midfield spot could go to Glen Kamara. Joe Aribo might be rested.
Attack
We are expecting Ryan Kent to return to the lineup and he will start on the left flank. The right-wing spot could go to Greg Stewart. He will often drift inside instead of occupying the byline. Alfredo Morelos will be expected to lead the line in this semi-final clash.
