According to a recent report by Italian outlet CalcioMercato, European giants Barcelona are said to be eyeing up a potential summer move for Inter Milan’s loan star Stefano Sensi. The youngster, currently on loan at the San Siro from Sassuolo, does have an option to buy embedded into his contract, but this certainly has not stopped Barcelona from courting the midfielder.
It has been claimed that the Italian’s agent – Giuseppe Riso, was in Barcelona as the end of October to discuss a possible summer transfer to Barcelona. The Catalan club are said to be keeping a keen eye on more than one Inter player, with the names of centre-half Milan Skriniar and prolific striker Lautaro Martinez, also being suggested.
Why Barcelona Need To Sign Stefano Sensi?
A report by Marca has suggested that Barcelona are nearing the end of their professional relationship with Croatian midfield star Ivan Rakitic, with the Catalan giants ready to offload their man in January. Rakitic has arguably been one of Barcelona’s most important players over the past few seasons, and how he’s been dropped from the side so abruptly is unfair, to say the least.
Despite this, his departure seems imminent, which means that Barcelona could be targeting Sensi as a replacement. Arturo Vidal’s performances haven’t been overly inspiring over the last few months either. Their inability to create chances, despite having complete control of almost every football match they play, is slowly starting to become an issue. Signing Sensi would be a good way to address that.
What Would Sensi Add To This Barcelona Team?
Despite being a lot younger than Rakitic, the Italian can create opportunities for others from midfield and would be an excellent addition to any team. He also backs up his performances with a good return of goals and assists, making him an ideal player for Valverde’s attacking system. He reads the movement of his teammates very well and is capable of making some very sharp runs into the box.
Once he gets in there as well, he tends to be a very confident and composed finisher, who barely passes up an opportunity in front of goal. Quite small in stature, the midfielder can begin to look like Andres Iniesta in the way he moves the ball about in midfield. Like the Spanish legend, his passing range is quite sensational, and with the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann in front of him, he could really prosper.
Can Barcelona Sign Him In The Summer?
The Italian is currently contracted to Inter Milan on a year-long loan deal, with a further option which allows the San Siro club to make the deal permanent if they please. Although this is the case, when a club like Barcelona come calling, the player himself might have a few second thoughts about staying in the Serie A. At the end of the day, there’s no denying that Barcelona can afford to pay a lot more for their man than Inter Milan, and in a situation like this, it’s the monetary advantages that could make the difference.
