Real Madrid played hosts to Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight hoping to overtake Barcelona and go back to the top of the La Liga standings. The Galacticos made a dominant start to the match as they enjoyed more of the ball in the first half. However, they couldn’t capitalise on their goal-scoring chances and were left frustrated at half-time.
The second half was more of the same with Los Blancos racking up the pressure while Betis focussed on hitting the home team on the counter. Both sides fought hard in the second half but couldn’t make a breakthrough as the match finished honours even with a 0-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the clash against Real Betis.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The Belgian goalie made a few vital stops in the first half and did well to keep a clean sheet at the back.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 4.5/10
He gave away possession way too many times during the game and failed to create a meaningful chance in the opposition half.
CB: Raphael Varane – 6.5/10
The French defensive ace commanded his own box with authority and conviction. He has a clean sheet to show for his efforts.
CB: Sergio Ramos – 6/10
The Spanish centre-back did not have too much trouble defending at the back. He tried his best to join in on the attack when Madrid was desperately hoping to find a winning goal in the second half.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 6/10
He defended well inside his own half but lacked the cutting edge going forward. He missed an excellent goal-scoring chance much to the dismay of the Madrid supporters. However, it was a solid return from injury, nonetheless.
CM: Toni Kroos – 6.5/10
The German talent orchestrated play well in the first half. However, his impact on the pitch faded as the match went on in the second half.
CM: Casemiro – 5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace played quite a few inaccurate passes and was not performing up to his usual standards tonight.
CM: Luka Modric – 5/10
The Croatia international was too slow for the game and did not create any good opportunities going forward. Maybe, its time for Zinedine Zidane to drop him to the bench.
RM: Rodrygo – 6.5/10
He struggled to make an impact in the final third but was always willing to track back the opposition runs for the benefit of his team.
ST: Karim Benzema – 6.5/10
The French striker showed a few glimpses of his brilliance but not finding the back of the net tonight will disappoint him.
LM: Eden Hazard – 8/10
The Belgian winger was Zidane’s best weapon going forward as he caused a lot of problems for the opposition using his pace and trickery from the wide areas. He won a lot of free-kicks as the Betis defenders couldn’t cope with his presence.
Substitutes:
RM: Vinicius Junior – 6/10
It was all flash and no end product from him.
