According to a recent report by Tuttosport (translated by the Daily Mirror), Red Bull Salzburg are hoping to bag €100m for their in-form striker Erling Braut Haaland amid current interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and other top European clubs. The same source has also claimed that the Austrian champions want to start a bidding war for their teenage sensation and are prepared to demand a huge fee for his services.
Haaland’s Majestic Rise In Austria
The 19-year-old was a product of the Molde FK academy before he decided to make a career-defining move to Austria at the start of this calendar year. After an average start to life in a foreign league, the Norwegian frontman has made a name for himself this season after scoring goals for fun for Salzburg across all competitions.
Haaland is currently in the form of his life and has put in numerous match-winning displays for Jesse Marsch’s side thus far. The Leeds-born prospect has netted 23 goals and created six assists in 23 appearances for Salzburg this term on all fronts. At such a young age, he has already managed to earn two international caps for the Norwegian national side so far.
If he can continue scoring goals at such a high rate, then there is no doubt that the top European clubs will consider paying a whopping fee to acquire Haaland’s services. However, for now, one can argue that his €100m price-tag is not justified as the talented striker is yet to prove his worth at the highest level.
What Does The Young Centre-Forward Offer On The Pitch?
Haaland is a commanding presence inside the opposition penalty area and can hold the ball up well for others around him. He is an ideal targetman who is also blessed with blistering pace and ability to get past the opposition defenders in the final third. The Norwegian rising star has also managed to transform himself into a prolific goal-scorer which is an incredible feat for a player of his age.
Should Liverpool Match Salzburg’s €100m Valuation For Haaland?
Recruiting a player of Haaland’s potential will undeniably be a massive coup for any of his potential suitors. He is young, talented and has all the makings to become a world-class forward in the future. However, the Reds might be reluctant to go on a bidding war with other top European clubs as that is something which does not fit the model of the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group.
Hence, Klopp is unlikely to go against FSG’s policy and splash big money on the striker, even though Haaland has the ceiling to become one of the best players of his generation.
