According to a recent report by The Guardian, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has publicly confirmed that the club still has Roman Abramovich’s backing, just as much as they did when he first took over. He went on to say that the Blues owner has rejected multiple ‘bargain’ bids for the club over the summer and that he remains loyal to the cause at Stamford Bridge.
He further went on to state that the Blues’ current academy situation and Frank Lampard’s appointment, have all made the owner extremely happy, and that if it wasn’t for the transfer ban, they might’ve gone in to buy two or three players in the summer. This could also mean that if their court hearing verdict is favourable, the Blues will be one of the biggest threats during the upcoming winter transfer window.
What Is The Current Situation At Chelsea?
The Blues were unexpectedly handed a two-window transfer ban by FIFA last summer, on the back of allegations against the club’s handling of players under the age of 18. Although the Blues deny the allegation explicitly even today, they were unable to make any additions to the side last summer, despite the gutting departure of star man Eden Hazard.
Although many expected this Chelsea side to collapse, the timely appointment of Frank Lampard and his management of the young stars in the Blues’ books has hoisted them to unexpected heights this season. They are currently in top four and are well-placed to make it into the knockout phase of the Champions League as well.
How Has Roman Abramovich Involved Himself At Chelsea Over The Years?
The Russian oligarch has undeniably been a vital part of the club’s romping success of the last many years, and his contributions to the side have been aplenty. Although the owner hasn’t been to a game at Stamford Bridge all the way since the summer of last season, chairman Bruce Buck confides that he is still as involved as ever.
Will Chelsea Break The Bank In January If The Transfer Ban Is Overturned?
There have been no shortage of transfer links of players with Chelsea, despite their inability to sign anyone temporarily. The Blues could look to strengthen in various key areas across the pitch, as they enter what is arguably the most challenging part of the campaign – the holiday period. While the Blues are wholly stacked in midfield, the defence is an area that could use some bolstering. Also, the addition of one more young and exciting winger would only help Lampard’s quest.
Bruce Buck also said that if it weren’t for the restrictions set by the governing authorities, the Blues chiefs would’ve helped Lampard’s cause out with two, or maybe even three summer signings. With that in mind, it’s rather obvious that the Blues are expected to make massive strides in the upcoming winter window.
