According to reports from Australian media outlet the World Game, Celtic are looking to extend Daniel Arzani’s loan deal for another season after his contract expires in the summer of 2020. The young winger was signed by the Hoops last season on a two-year loan deal, but he suffered an ACL injury on his debut against Dundee.
He has been away for close to 13 months now, but he is expected to be a hundred percent match fit in around a month.
It is believed that Lennon has seen him in training sessions and other reserve games and is convinced that the winger can come good at Parkhead. Talks are not in advance stages yet with Arzani’s parent club Manchester City, but it is believed that even the winger is keen to stay on and show his capabilities.
Arzani shot into the limelight when he featured for Australia in the 2018 World Cup. Melbourne City FC signed him in 2016 who are a sister club of Manchester City. The English heavyweights went on to sign him in 2018 only to send him on a two season-long loan at Parkhead. An injury like that is indeed unfortunate, and the Hoops will hope that the winger can soon get back on the pitch.
What can Arzani offer?
Arzani is primarily a right-footed left-winger but he can play on the other flank and even as an attacking midfielder. The 20-year-old has a certain flair to his game as he played a lot of street football and futsal in his younger days.
He is always looking to drive the ball forward and is not shy about taking on defenders. His sublime skills can be breathtaking, but he needs to build fitness and tactical nuances to his game to thrive at the top level. Arzani is still quite raw, and he needs some experience to showcase his best. He also needs to improve his decision making in the final third, which will come with more experience.
Right call from Lennon?
The Hoops will likely lose Scott Sinclair so a slot could open up for Arzani on the left-wing. It’s tough to say right now whether Celtic are making the right call here by handing him another year extension. However, it seems clear that Lennon is happy with what he can offer on the pitch and he sees potential in him to play for Celtic again. Hopefully, the youngster will be able to mature soon to benefit Celtic in the next year or so.
