According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Brazilian starlet Reinier Jesus is said to have piqued the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs, including Premier League outfit Chelsea and Spanish giants Barcelona. The Flamengo man has been extremely highly-rated by his coaches and followers in Brazil, and it’s not a very big surprise that the 17-year-old is being valued by his boyhood club at around £70m.
The report claims that the Blues are waiting on the decision of their transfer ban appeal hearing scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). If their ban is, in fact, cut-short to just one window, that would mean that January is when Frank Lampard will be allowed to splurge into the transfer market again.
Who Is Flamengo’s Reinier Jesus?
Born in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia, the Flamengo superstar is an attacking-midfielder who has risen to the fame in recent weeks, owing to the sensational form that he’s been displaying on the ball. Still only 17-years-old, the youngster has been a Flamengo player since he started his footballing career, but it’s now beginning to look like a move to one of Europe’s elite is inevitable.
He’s played in 13 fixtures for the Brazilian Serie A outfit this term and has pitched in with a decent return of four goals and two assists. He made his national youth debut when he first lined up for the U-17 side at the end of last year and has since become a regular in Tite’s system. He boasts an extremely ‘Brazilian’ mentality that makes him a player who exudes flair.
What Attributes Do Reinier Possess?
He is a young Brazilian attacker who has the odd trick up his sleeve and isn’t afraid to take his man on and beat him. An adept dribbler with the ball at his feet, the youngster’s powerful forward running makes for a special sight indeed. He pivots and manoeuvres his way past challenges with utmost ease, and he isn’t easy to get the ball off of either.
The teenager seems to have an excellent ability to read the minds of defenders when running at them, often seen leaving players in his wake, making long and mazy runs deep into opposition territory. He is a decent finisher in the box and boasts an extremely calm and composed head for a 17-year-old. He shows excellent maturity out on the pitch as well – a trait that has allowed him to stand out from the rest of the players in the Flamengo camp.
Why Chelsea Should Secure A Deal For Reinier
Like another former Chelsea star Oscar, Reinier looks like an exciting Brazilian prospect who could light the Premier League on fire with his trickery. With the likes of Christian Pulisic and Brazil veteran Willian already in the Chelsea ranks, the addition of Reinier would make for an exciting situation at Stamford Bridge. The youngster’s quality needn’t be questioned at all, as Barcelona only come calling for the best of the best. Despite this, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea will do well to beat the European superpowers to the Brazilian’s signature, in what promises to be a good move for the future.
