According to a recent report by The Metro, European giants Barcelona and Juventus are both said to be eyeing up a possible January move for Chelsea’s Brazilian international winger Willian, as he nears the end of his current contract at Stamford Bridge. The veteran has been a fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge for quite a while now, but despite his loyalty to the club, he is yet to be offered a new deal by the Chelsea bosses.
The 31-year-old’s current term in West London is set to expire at the end of the current season, which means that unless the Blues extend before that, the Brazilian could walk away on a free transfer. While Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is said to be keen on a reunion with the Chelsea star, Barcelona’s hunt for attacking reinforcements seems to have brought them to Willian.
What Attributes Does Willian Add To A Team?
A traditionally Brazilian winger by nature, the former Shaktar Donestk man has unquestionably been one of Chelsea’s most dangerous players over the last many years. He is arguably one of the best dribblers in the Premier League, and despite his rising age, has the pace to beat most of his counterparts in a foot race. His ability to carry the ball forward with poise and purpose has helped the Blues secure so many wins over the years.
One of the Brazilian’s most feared talents is his ability to strike a ball from a distance, as can be seen with majority of the goals he’s scored for the Blues. The former Anzhi man has a fierce right foot, and he is capable of beating any goalkeeper in the world on his day. He has the odd trick up his sleeve and is the kind of player who tends to keep his chin up despite the result of proceedings.
What Is Willian’s Legacy At Stamford Bridge?
The Brazilian international has been a loyal servant of the Blues since joining them from Russian outfit Anzhi in the summer of 2013. He has been one of their best players over the last decade and has played vital parts on their way to multiple titles as well. He’s won two league titles in England while also being part of the squad that beat Arsenal to a Europa League triumph last season.
What Role Does Willian Have To Play At Chelsea?
Since the start of the current campaign, Willian has suddenly been getting a lot more respect from the younger group of players at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian’s experience and technical know-how make him an excellent role model for the youthful collection of stars that Frank Lampard is hoping to mould this campaign. The 31-year-old has been a first-choice starter in the Blues lineup, as Lampard looks to add in the perfect mix of youth and experience to get the best out of his squad.
Why Chelsea Simply Cannot Afford To Sell Willian In January
The Blues’ start to the campaign has been impressive, and with twelve league games already behind us, Frank Lampard’s men find themselves in 3rd place, still very much active in the race for the league title. Although not too much would’ve been expected of them at the start, under the guidance of able heads like Willian and Azpilicueta, the Blues’ youngsters have been hitting unprecedented heights. The veteran’s influence on this team cannot be put into words, and selling him would rock this football club through to its very foundation.
