According to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are hoping to secure the signature of Bayern Munich right-back Joshua Kimmich at the end of this campaign. The same source has revealed that Barca have made the German defender one of their top targets for next summer as Ernesto Valverde looks to find a way to resolve his side’s defensive concerns at the back.
Kimmich’s Stellar Form In German Football
The Bundesliga star has made a name for himself at the Allianz Arena after putting in numerous eye-catching displays for Bayern over the past few seasons. He has made a bright start to this campaign as well following a string of impressive performances in the German top-flight.
Kimmich has featured in 18 matches for the Bavarian giants this term, netting one goal while providing five assists on all fronts. He is averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.0 shots and 2.3 key passes per game in the top tier of Germany (stats via whoscored).
The 24-year-old is also vastly experienced at the international level, having represented Germany in 48 matches while scoring three goals in the process. He could prove to be a shrewd signing for Valverde if the Barca boss can successfully manage to bring the German international to the Nou Camp.
What Will The German Full-Back Add To Valverde’s Team?
Kimmich is deceptively quick and can make some driving runs down the right flank. He excels at passing the ball and retains possession quite effectively for his team. The Bayern wing-back has transformed himself into one of the most productive playmakers in German football. He also has an excellent positional awareness which allows him to take some dangerous areas inside the opposition penalty box.
Recruiting Kimmich: Good Move For The Catalans?
Barca are in dire need of a few quality defenders as their current options are underperforming across all competitions. The Catalan outfit has shipped in 15 goals in 12 league matches. If they do not improve on that record, it is likely that Valverde’s side might not end up winning the La Liga title this season.
Kimmich is a full-back who could lineup for Barcelona for years to come as he is only 24. The German sensation still has his prime years ahead of him which Valverde could look to benefit from over the next few seasons. Hence, he will be a terrific addition if Barca can manage to land him next summer.
