According to a recent report by the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are unlikely to sell John McGinn when the transfer window reopens in January despite recent speculation linking him with Manchester United. It is believed that the Villans will turn down any offers for the Scottish talent this winter and would likely to do the same next summer unless a club offers a whopping amount of money for his services (via the Birmingham Mail).
McGinn’s Inspiring Spell At Villa Park
Since making a switch from Hibernian FC in the summer of 2018, the Scottish playmaker has gradually improved his game on his way to becoming one of the first names on Dean Smith’s teamsheet at Villa Park these days. McGinn has made a positive impact at both ends of the pitch as he is an all-round midfielder who loves to work hard for the benefit of his club.
The 25-year-old’s stock has risen even further after he made a bright start to this campaign. He has featured in 11 matches for the Villans this term, scoring three goals while creating two assists in the Premier League.
McGinn has taken 2.9 shots, played 1.4 key passes and completed 2.5 dribbles per game in the English top-flight this season. On the defensive end, he has averaged 2.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 0.8 clearances per match in the top tier of England (stats via whoscored).
What Makes The Scottish Midfield Ace Such A Promising Talent?
McGinn’s influence has been incredible in the current Aston Villa team so they cannot afford to lose him in the near future. The Scottish talent has a high work-rate and a good football IQ that makes him such a special talent at Smith’s disposal. He is the main engine room of the Villa side and can also orchestrate plays for others around him. The Glasgow-born player also tends to take up some dangerous positions in the final third.
Why The Villans Cannot Afford To Lose Him… Or Can They?
However, McGinn needs to improve his productivity if he wants to take his team to the next level. Even though he has made a sensational start to this season, he cannot afford to have a dip in form as so much of their play goes through him. Furthermore, he has struck up a fruitful partnership with Jack Grealish at the heart of the Villa midfield.
Smith cannot entertain the possibility of losing McGinn as he is an irreplaceable asset. However, in this day and age, every player has a price so if a top club makes a substantial bid for the Scotland international, Villa would find it hard to not give in to their demands.
