According to a recent report by TuttoMercatoWeb (translated by Sport Witness), Arsenal midfield ace Lucas Torreira is not happy with how things are panning out at North London this season.
The same source has also revealed that the Uruguayan talent is not content with how Unai Emery is using him in the Gunners starting XI. He used to play as the defensive anchorman in midfield last season, but Emery has chosen to deploy him as a box to box midfielder this term
TuttoMercatoWeb has also claimed that Torreira’s agent will fly to England later this week to hold talks with the North London outfit over the player’s future. It is understood that if things do not change soon, then the South American workhorse might opt to part ways with the club by ‘mutual agreement’ (via TuttoMercatoWeb).
Torreira’s Uneventful Start To This Premier League Season
The 23-year-old has made an average start to this campaign, but he has still managed to put in a couple of eye-catching displays for the Gunners so far. He has scored two goals in 15 matches for Emery’s side this term on all fronts. The Fray Bentos-born midfielder has also earned 21 international caps for Uruguay thus far but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation.
What Does The Uruguayan Midfield Ace Offer On The Field?
Torreira is a tough-tackling holding midfielder who has the energy to cover a lot of ground at the centre of the park. He loves to work his socks off for the benefit of his team and has also shown in the past that he can score the odd goal going forward.
Why The Gunners Cannot Afford To Lose Torreira
The Uruguay international will be a big loss for Arsenal if he chooses to leave, especially when he has his best years ahead of him. Emery needs more combative players like Torreira in his first-team who won’t give up without a fight. However, if the Gunners head coach gets the sack soon, then there is a chance that the club might be able to convince the player to stay at the Emirates for the time being.
The North London giants cannot afford to lose one of their hardest working players in Torreira. Emery has to find a way to keep him happy at the English capital by meeting some of his demands. Otherwise, either the player or the manager might be forced out of the club in the coming weeks.
