According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Arsenal have already begun their search for a replacement for the clueless Unai Emery, in the wake of an abysmal run of performances by the North London club. It has been suggested that there is concern about the current state of the club right from the boardroom level and that the chiefs are still split over whether to give the Spaniard more time to try and resolve the situation.
It is claimed that the likes of Edu and Raul Sanllehi are keen to keep the Spanish tactician at the Emirates, in the hope that he will improve the results in the long run. While that may be the case, it has been reported that multiple parties within the Arsenal board are extremely unhappy with Emery’s managership, and believe that he should be relieved of his duties at the earliest.
Where Has It All Gone Wrong For Emery At Arsenal?
Although the Spaniard came to England with massive expectations and a fairly illustrious CV, life in the Premier League hasn’t been very good for him. The defensive setup where he allows his centre-halves to spread out to try and open up the play worked wonders in Spain but has been consistently picked off by deadly Premier League attackers.
In attack as well, Emery’s system is very clearly dependent on wing play. Despite having Nicolas Pepe in his ranks, his constant utilisation of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang on the flanks defies logic. Even when the duo is playing up-front, they’re often seen operating on near the side-lines – leading to more questions about the Spaniard’s tactical knowledge.
The Contenders
Massimiliano Allegri
The Italian mastermind has always been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, ever since Arsene Wenger was dismissed from his role. The former AC Milan and Juventus manager has achieved great things during his time in Italy, and his pragmatic style of play would suit the Premier League as well. Considering that Arsenal lack in the structural rigidity department, Allegri would be an excellent option to revamp this team completely.
Mauricio Pochettino
Perhaps the option that Arsenal fans will be most excited about, the former Tottenham coach would be a sensational coup by the Gunners. He built Tottenham up from absolutely nothing and carried them all the way until the final of the Champions League last season. Considering just how successful he was with the minimal resources of Tottenham, he has the potential to be the next Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta
If the Arsenal chiefs wish to take inspiration from what Chelsea have achieved so far this season under the leadership of Frank Lampard, then Mikel Arteta would be the way to go. Although he wasn’t at Arsenal for too long, he rapidly became a fan-favourite within the club and has deep-rooted emotions attacked to the Emirates Stadium as well. Having worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, his Premier League experience is another plus as well.
