According to the reports from the Daily Record, Italian heavyweights like Lazio, AS Roma and Napoli have been put off by the price tag of Celtic’s in-form attacker Odsonne Edouard. The trio has been linked with the French striker, but they are likely to be priced out of a move for the Celtic man.
It is not surprising to see the Hoops valuing Edouard highly. The club sold Kieran Tierney to Arsenal this summer for £25m which was a record transfer in Scottish football. Edouard is likely to go past that fee, and a January move is unlikely to happen given his importance in the squad right now. However, it is being said that a ‘mammoth’ fee could probably do the trick.
How much should Celtic demand in January?
If a club is interested in Edouard in January, then the Hoops should demand £50m for him. Celtic are currently in a tight title race with Rangers and losing their premier striker midway can hurt their chances to win their 9th Premiership title in a row.
English clubs have also been linked with Edouard. It remains to be seen what kind of offer will come Celtic’s way for the striker. Some might say that even £50m would not be enough compensation for losing Edouard in January.
Why is Edouard a complete package?
The Frenchman was always seen as a massive talent since he arrived on loan at Parkhead. The club went on to make him their record signing. However, he has really taken his game to the next level this season, and his form for France’s u-21 has also helped other teams take notice of him as he has been brilliant for the youth team.
Edouard seems to be a complete striker as he can score all kind of goals. He can hold up play well, and along with that, he is always willing to make runs between the channels. The Frenchman is also known for making marauding solo runs, and his dribbling skills can take quite a few people by surprise.
He also turns up on big occasions as he has a terrific record in big games against Rangers and other knockout stages as well. All in all, he seems like a complete package at the moment, and Celtic are right to ask a high transfer fee for him.
Edouard will inevitably move to bigger and better things in the future, given his talent and age. However, Celtic cannot afford to lose him in January. With Serie A heavyweights priced out of a move, it is clear that it will take something monumental to lure him away midway through the campaign.
