According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to reignite their interest in AC Milan midfield ace Franck Kessié by making a move for his services when the transfer window reopens in January. It is believed that the two clubs were quite far apart with their valuation of the player earlier this summer which is why a move has failed to materialise thus far.
However, Wolves are now ready to go back in for the Ivorian youngster who will only consider a switch away from the San Siro if it is to a bigger club or if he bags a higher salary (via Calciomercato).
Kessie’s Importance At The San Siro
Kessie has made a bright start to this campaign after putting in a couple of excellent displays for AC Milan in the Serie A. However, the Italian outfit are currently sitting mid-table and looks set to be in for another long and gruelling season. The Ivory Coast international has featured in seven matches for Stefano Pioli’s side this term, scoring one goal across all competitions. He has made an average of 1.0 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and 0.3 clearances per game in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Even though Kessie’s numbers have been poor this season, the 22-year-old has been one of Pioli’s better players at the San Siro. Maybe, a change of scenery might be ideal for the Ivorian at this stage of his playing career. He would thrive with regular first-team opportunities at a club like Wolves as Nuno Espirito Santo could be the perfect man to get the best out of his talents. The Serie A rising star has also secured 27 international caps for the Ivory Coast national team but is yet to score his first goal for his homeland.
What Does The Ivory Coast Workhorse Offer On The Field?
Kessie has decent pace in his locker, which helps him cover a lot of ground in the middle of the park. He can also make some driving runs with the ball in the opposition half, and his unselfish dribbles can open up spaces for others around him. However, what makes the Ivorian such an exceptional talent is his ability to defend effectively inside his own half.
Kessie is a commanding presence in midfield and can win a lot of 50-50 aerial duels using his powerful frame. He can also make some vital interceptions and tends to help out his teammates when they are in trouble at the back. The acquisition of the Milan midfielder could turn out to be a massive coup for Wolves if they can find a way to bring him to the Molineux Stadium.
Recruiting Kessie In January: Shrewd Move For Wolves?
Nuno Santo would be wise to orchestrate a move for Kessie’s services in January as he has the potential to form a mutually beneficial midfield partnership with Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho at the heart of the Wolves midfield. The West Midlands side could potentially have the most dominant midfield in the Premier League if they can pull off Kessie’s signing this winter.
