According to a recent report by Turkish publication Fanatik, Premier League giants Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be keen on making a move for Galatasaray’s Congolese international centre-half Christian Luyindama. The report suggests that both Wolves and West Ham are interested in the defender’s services and this is even though he only moved to the Turkish outfit at the turn of the new season.
Who is Christian Luyindama?
Born in 1994, 25-year-old Luyindama was destined to be a footballer from a young age. He was forced to spend multiple spells at various Congolese clubs before eventually making a name for himself. Playing for Galatasaray and even representing them in the Champions League, this defender’s path to supremacy certainly hasn’t come easy.
After moving to Standard Liege permanently in the summer of 2017, it didn’t take the Turkish giants long to snap up their man. Now a regular member of the first-team, Luyindama has begun to express himself on the pitch and has started attracting the interest of many of the bigger clubs in Europe. The two aforementioned Premier League clubs have even had scouts watching the Congolese international during Champions League games.
What He Brings to the Table
Standing at well over 1.9m tall, Luyindama’s physicality will help him settle into life in the Premier League. As someone able to muscle the ball off any striker, the defender always shows an excellent burst of pace and acceleration.
His defensive positioning has been the envy of the Turkish league so far while his ability to read passes before they’re even made makes him a top asset to have on any competitive team.
More than capable of holding a high line, Luyindama has all the makings of a player who could excel in the Premier League. He is adept at playing in a high-line or even in a well-structured and tightly-packed defence. The Galatasaray man has the voice and the ability to be a real leader within the side, and he isn’t afraid to express himself out on the pitch either.
Will Wolves Benefit from Signing Him?
The injury to Mason Bennett at the start of the campaign came as a pretty big reality check to Nuno Espírito Santo and his men. Although the likes of Willy Boly and Conor Coady have done well to make up for the injured personnel, signing another quality centre-half certainly wouldn’t hurt – especially considering that Wolves even have a European competition to worry about this term.
