Manchester City will clash heads with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium looking to close the gap to Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings. The Citizens will come into this contest after emerging victorious in all of their past five matches across all competitions.
Pep Guardiola will opt to stick with his favoured 4-3-3 formation and might make a whole of changes to his side for this clash at Manchester.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Wolves
Defence
Ederson will be Guardiola’s undisputed number one keeper once again for this game after he secured a clean sheet against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek. The experienced duo of Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho should continue their partnership at the centre of the Man City backline. They would hope to keep things stable at the back against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
Benjamin Mendy might get the nod to start at left-back after his impressive display versus Zagreb on Tuesday night. Oleksandr Zinchenko might have to settle for a place on the bench. Kyle Walker will return to the right-back spot as he tries to put in an improved all-round performance this weekend.
The Citizens defence has conceded just one goal in their last five outings on all fronts. Therefore, Guardiola will be confident that his players will be able to keep the Wolves attackers at bay on Sunday.
Midfield
Guardiola will like to select his strongest midfield three of David Silva, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne for this game. However, De Bruyne is a major doubt for this clash and will have to pass a late fitness test if he wants to be a part of the Man City first-team this weekend. Ilkay Gundogan will be on standby just in case the Belgian fails to recover in time for this weekend’s encounter at the Etihad.
Attack
The home side’s frontline would be comprised of Sergio Aguero spearheading Guardiola’s attack down the middle while Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva focus on providing width out on the wings. Sterling managed to come off the bench to find the back of the net against Zagreb earlier this week. Thus, he will believe that he can get his name on the scoresheet versus Wolves this weekend.
Both Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus will have to be content with a place on Guardiola’s bench but might get a chance to make an impact on the field if needed.
