As reported by Daily Star, Glen Johnson has urged Harry Kane to move on from Tottenham Hotspur to find more success and add more trophies to his cabinet. The ex-Liverpool ace believes Manchester City could be an ideal destination.
“If I was in Harry’s shoes, I would think that I can play elsewhere and have a much better chance of playing with better players and adding trophies to my cabinet,” Johnson told BetDaq.
What has Kane achieved at Tottenham so far?
Kane, after making his Premier League breakthrough during the 2014/15 campaign with Tottenham Hotspur, has earned a lot of rave reviews and is considered as one of the best players on the planet. He is currently the club’s all-time top scorer, having netted 171 goals in all competition, which is significantly more than legends like Teddy Sheringham and Robbie Keane.
In 2017, the homegrown star broke Alan Shearer’s record of scoring most goals in a calendar year, finding the back of the net 39 times. He was also the Premier League’s top scorer during the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaign while he is currently 13th in the all-time top scorers’ charts in the English top flight.
However, all of these are individual achievements. As far as trophies are concerned, Kane is yet to win a competitive silverware, which is shocking for a player of his calibre.
Can Kane secure a title at Spurs, ever?
Tottenham Hotspur have improved a lot under Mauricio Pochettino in the past couple of years. But, the club is facing a crisis right now, especially after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton and a humiliating 7-2 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich this month.
And with Manchester City and Liverpool flying high, it’s unlikely Spurs will be able to win the Premier League anytime soon. The future of Pochettino has also come under scrutiny due to the club’s recent performances, which is a fuel for further mediocrity.
Should Kane move to Man City?
In pure sporting perspectives, Kane’s move to Manchester City makes sense. The defending champions already have Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. But, the former is in the final stage of his career while Jesus has appeared inconsistent at times.
Kane, therefore, can easily become the club’s primary striker. However, a move to Real Madrid or FC Barcelona makes much more sense. Madrid’s big-money signing Luka Jovic has failed to impress while Barca are already looking for offensive reinforcements as both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez near the final phase of their respective careers.
