Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to return to winning ways as they travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The Lilywhites will come into this encounter on the back of a humiliating 7-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League fixture in midweek.
So essentially, the visitors will be extra careful as they look to avoid any major upset this time around. And in this article, we will take a look at three Brighton & Hove Albion stars Tottenham need to keep an eye on this weekend.
Adam Webster
Following the injury of Shane Duffy, Adam Webster has done well to fill up the void in the defensive department. The former Bristol City talent has become a first-team regular for the Seagulls in recent weeks, having featured in all of the club’s last four Premier League matches.
Webster has built a strong defensive partnership with Lewis Dunk, who has also made a name for himself, thanks to his defensive qualities. And these two will play a pivotal role for Brighton as they aim to prevent the Tottenham attackers from making any inroads in the final third.
The main priority for them would be to isolate Harry Kane. That means Pochettino will need to come up with an idea of breaching these two defenders if he is to have any hope of sealing all three points this weekend.
Pascal Gross
Pascal Gross has been one of the unsung heroes for Brighton & Hove Albion ever since joining from Ingolstadt in 2017. Even though the ex-Hoffenheim starlet is yet to be involved in a single goal this campaign, he will remain the creator-in-chief for the hosts this weekend.
Especially with Solly March being a doubt, the onus will be on Gross to provide the creative essence going forward. And given the fact that Brighton will likely play on the counter, the German midfielder could create problems with his accurate deliveries from set-pieces.
In addition, he is also capable of threading in key passes in the final third. Therefore, the Spurs midfielders should keep tabs on the Brighton star this weekend.
Neal Maupay
Neal Maupay hasn’t exactly made a productive start to his Premier League career after joining from Brentford. The Frenchman has scored only two goals so far but is still Brighton’s top scorer in the league this season. Maupay’s last goal came in the 1-1 draw with Burnley last month.
He will be tasked with the responsibility of leading the Brighton attack. His pace and tenacity will be useful on the counter, which means stopping him should be Tottenham’s number one priority tomorrow.
