Rangers travelled to Stade de Suisse in Bern to take on the Swiss heavyweights Young Boys in their second group game of the UEFA Europa League. They went in at the half time with a lead, but they ended the game with a heartbreaking loss as the Swiss Champions scored the winner with almost the last kick of the game.
The first half was devoid of action for most parts, and both teams failed to conjure up anything meaningful in the final third. Rangers though ended the half strongly as Morelos got through on goal after beating his man and he finished well to give his side the lead just before half time. Ojo had a chance to double his team’s advantage soon, but he fired wide with his attempt.
Young Boys started the second half well and played on the front foot. However, it was Rangers’ own undoing that gifted their opponents the equaliser as Tavernier dwelt on the ball too much and he was robbed which allowed the home team to score. Rangers then clawed back in the game to stay level, but they received a hammering blow as the Swiss team scored the winner late in the stoppage time almost out of nothing.
Here is how the Rangers players performed in their heartbreaking loss vs Young Boys.
Allan McGregor 6
Got his hand for the second goal and maybe could have done slightly better. Apart from that, he wasn’t troubled much.
Filip Helander 6
Looked strong and assured in defence. Was solid in the aerial duels.
Connor Goldson 5.5
Was troubled on a few occasions but came out unscathed. Not too great neither too terrible as the centre back.
Borna Barisic 7
Played some delightful short diagonals to Morelos from the left. One of them resulted in a goal. Has come leaps and bounds over the last few weeks and the Croatian put in a decent shift on both halves of the pitch.
James Tavernier 3
The captain might have to take the blame for both the goals which Rangers conceded. His crossing was also not up to the mark. Held his own in a few one on one duels but a game to forget for the right back.
Glen Kamara 6
Did alright in the middle as he helped his side in defence by staying compact. Moved the ball well. Didn’t catch the eye but a safe performance.
Steven Davis 6
Looked in control in the middle when Rangers were slightly dominant in the game. Broke up a few attacks. Not his best game but was decent.
Ryan Jack 7
Provided his usual energy in the early stages of the match and sprayed the ball accurately. Carried the ball well from midfield but unfortunately had to come off due to an injury.
Scott Arfield 6
Worked hard like always and often dropped deep to help his team in defence. Could have been more incisive when in possession.
Sheyi Ojo 5
Had a great chance to put Rangers two up but missed his chance. Was hardly able to provide any quality in the final third.
Alfredo Morelos 7
Was able to hold his man and defeated him in a physical battle to get through on goal. He scored the only Rangers goal. Came close to scoring in the end but his effort was expertly saved. Stretched the play well with his clever runs and was a handful like always.

Greg Stewart 5.5
Came on for Jack and did okay. Scored but he was well offside.
