Charlton Atheltic’s strong start to the season is waning off as they have slipped to the 10th spot on the table. The Addicks suffered a heartbreaking loss in the midweek tie against Bristol City, and Lee Bowyer will need to pick his side up to prepare for a tough trip to the Hawthorns where they will play league leaders West Bromwich Albion.
Most of the top 10 teams are clustered together and the difference between the second and the 10th spot is only three points. Therefore the Addicks can rise in the table if they do the improbable and defeat the Baggies for their second loss of the league season. West Brom have remained undefeated at the Hawthorns in the Championship since February, and the Addicks’ task will be cut out.
Team News: Playmaker Jonny Williams is going to be a big miss for Charlton as he is set to miss two months of action due to a knee injury. The loss against the Robins was more disheartening as the manager lost two of his players to injuries.
Sam Field and Jake Forster-Caskey had to come off with knocks and Bowyer admitted that his side is running out of bodies at the moment. Ben Purrington is also a significant doubt. Adam Matthews is also set to be out for a few weeks. Chuks Aneke is expected to be fit to face the table-toppers. Star striker Lyle Taylor has returned to training, but he is unlikely to be involved in this tie.
Charlton Athletic Predicted Lineup Vs West Bromwich Albion
Formation (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Dillon Phillips is expected to start in goal once again. Former Leeds United defender Jason Pearce is likely to start at the back. Tom Lockyer should partner him. Deji Oshilaja is expected to keep his place at right-back. Chris Solly, who is a right-back by trade, might have to fill in at left-back with so many injuries at the back.
Midfield
Darren Pratley is expected to fill in for injured Field in the defensive midfield role. Israel international Beram Kayal should start in the middle. He should be partnered by Josh Cullen. Conor Gallagher is going to start as the attacking midfielder in the absence of Williams.
Attack
Lyle Taylor has been a big miss in attack for Charlton upfront. Jonathan Leko should start again. He is likely to be supported by Macauley Bonne who found the back of the net against Bristol City.
