According to a report by the Daily Mail, Liverpool are set to face fierce competition from Chelsea in pursuit of Bournemouth midfield ace Lewis Cook. The same source has recently claimed that the Reds are keeping tabs on the Cherries talent and could make a move for him next summer if he continues to perform well for Eddie Howe’s side this season.
Cook’s Impressive Spell At The Vitality Stadium
The 22-year-old has been an influential member of the Bournemouth squad since he joined from Leeds United in the summer of 2016. The young Englishman has put in some impressive performances at the Vitality Stadium over the past couple of seasons. Cook has featured in a total of 61 matches for the Cherries but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for them. However, he has managed to provide three assists during his time in the English top-flight.
The York-born has only made five appearances for the South-coast side this term. The Cherries midfield enforcer was out for more than ten months as he recovered from a cruciate ligament rupture that he sustained back in December last year.
Howe is now trying to nurse him back to his starting XI so we can expect him to be at 100% in the coming weeks. Cook has also managed to earn one international cap for the English national side so far.
What Will The English Midfielder Add To Klopp’s Side?
Cook is primarily a box to box midfielder who is moderately paced but can make some driving runs in the opposition half. He has an excellent passing range and can distribute the ball accurately from midfield. The English youngster is not shy of working his socks off for the benefit of his team, which makes him an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play at Anfield.
Should The Reds Make A Move For Him At The End Of This Campaign?
Cook is a willing worker and can cause some problems going forward when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. The Premier League rising star could turn out to be a shrewd acquisition for the Merseyside club if Klopp can find a way to bring him to Anfield next summer.
His ball-distribution and youthful exuberance make him a decent signing if Klopp is looking to improve the depth of his squad. Otherwise, the European champions would be better off opting for more proven talents as Cook is currently not good enough to secure a regular starting berth at Liverpool.
