Alfredo Morelos has once again emerged as a crucial player for Gerrard this season. The striker has already bagged 14 goals in all competitions. Moreover, he has seemingly settled in well in terms of his bursting temperament as he has avoided altercations with the oppositions and the referees this season.
Morelos on Gerrard’s impact and his dream move
On the back of that, it is no surprise that he earned a call up to Colombia’s national team recently. Morelos credited Gerrard for his achievements. However, he also reaffirmed that moving to the Premier League is his dream. The striker recently said (Daily Record), ”I’ve spoken a lot to Steven Gerrard this season. It’s thanks to him that I am here (in the national team). ”
”He’s just a good man-manager and a great coach. Things have gone really well for me at Rangers this season. I’ve scored in just about every game for them. It’s not a secret that I admire the English Premier League. I have to keep scoring goals for Rangers if I am ever to get a chance of moving to a club there.”
Gerrard must have talked about what the striker needs to do to move to the Premier League, and his on-field behaviour must have been a big talking point between the two. It seems that the manager has been able to mellow him down and we can see the best of Morelos this season sans his volatile behaviour.
Losing Morelos: An inevitability for Rangers
All in all, this is a positive update for Rangers, but it’s clear that the Colombian will move to bigger and better things in the future. There is no doubt that even Steven Gerrard and the club management will be aware of that given his goal-scoring prowess and talent.
Gerrard will hope that Morelos can deliver a title this season for the Gers and that will really push his market value further. Last summer, the club was reportedly demanding £20m for him from prospective buyers. However, if Morelos keeps on producing goals and keeps his temperament in check along with delivering a title this season, Rangers can well be sitting on a goldmine come the next summer.
However, a lot of things needs to go right from here as Rangers sit on the top of the table. Having an experienced striker like Jermain Defoe is also an advantage for Gerrard and Rangers as he can also guide Morelos. We are hoping to see the best of 23-year-old this season, and the signs look ominous so far as the Bears are looking good this season.
