Manchester United will travel to St. James’ Park to face off against Newcastle United on Sunday hoping to pick up maximum points on the road. The Red Devils have made a poor start to this Premier League campaign and are currently languishing in tenth place of the league standings.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will likely opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and make quite a few changes to his team for this contest at Tyneside.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
David De Gea will operate as the primary goalkeeper for the Mancunian giants after he managed to earn a clean sheet against AZ Alkmaar in midweek. Harry Maguire will return to Solskjaer’s starting XI after being rested earlier this week and will play alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of the Red Devils backline. They will hope to put in a commanding shift at the back versus the Magpies.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a doubt for this clash and will be in a race against time to be fit to start at right-back. The ex-Crystal Palace full-back has defended well inside his own half but needs to be more creative going forward.
Ashley Young will once again be the captain as he leads his team from the right-back position. Luke Shaw is not likely to recover in time for this weekend’s clash at Tyneside. Solskjaer will hope that his defenders have what it takes to earn a shutout against Steve Bruce’s men.
Midfield
Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic will resume their partnership at the centre of the park. The dynamic duo will be responsible for establishing the away side’s dominance in midfield. Pogba has so far had a lacklustre campaign in the Premier League, so he needs to put in a much-improved performance versus the Magpies on Sunday.
The talented trio of Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata and Daniel James will operate just ahead of them as part of the Red Devils attack. James has arguably been Solskjaer’s best player so far this season, so a lot will depend on him when laces up to face Newcastle at St. James’ Park later this week.
Paul Pogba has suffered an injury which will keep him out of action for a few weeks.
Attack
Marcus Rashford will lead the charge for the Red Devils up top. The English striker is in dire need of a goal as he has struggled to be productive for Man United in recent weeks. Mason Greenwood will have to wait for his opportunity on the bench but might get a chance to feature in this clash if required.
