According to a recent report by Sky Sports News, Manchester United are eager to secure the services of Juventus outcast Emre Can when the transfer window reopens in January. The same source has mentioned that the Red Devils are weighing up an offer to bring the German midfield ace to Old Trafford during the winter transfer period.
Can’s Recent Frustrations In The Italian Top-Flight
The former Liverpool midfielder has endured a frustrating campaign at the Allianz Stadium thus far as he has been starved of first-team opportunities by the new Juve boss Maurizio Sarri. Can’s career has come to a standstill at the Turin club, so it is quite understandable if he ends up seeking a move away from Italy in search of more game time this winter.
The 25-year-old has made just three appearances in the Serie A this season, playing a total of 78 minutes for the Italian champions so far. The appointment of Sarri as Juve’s new head coach has put Can on the fringes of the Juve squad behind the likes of Blaise Matuidi, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanić.
Maybe, a return to English football might suit him at this stage of his playing career. The German talent is a strong, athletic and powerful midfielder who has prior experience of playing in England. However, a move to Man United might not go down well with the Liverpool supporters as they would hate to see one of their former players join their arch-enemies in January.
What Will The German Add To Solskjaer’s Side?
Can is primarily a holding midfielder who can also assume the duties of a box to box midfielder if required. As mentioned earlier, he has a sturdy frame which helps him be dominant in the air. The German rising star can also fill in as a centre-half if needed. His versatility and commanding presence in midfield make him a useful option for any squad.
Even though Can won’t be able to improve the quality of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield too much, he will undeniably bolster the overall depth of the Red Devils squad. However, the Frankfurt-born workhorse needs to work on increasing his productivity going forward if he intends to break into the world-class bracket someday.
Is Can The Right Fit For The Red Devils?
For now, Can seems to be the right fit for Man United, but he alone won’t be able to turn their fortunes around at the Theatre of Dreams. Therefore, Solskjaer must be allowed to invest more in strengthening other areas of his squad so that the Mancunian outfit can compete for silverware in the coming years.
