According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Manchester United are hoping to seal a move for Olympique Lyonnais centre-forward Moussa Dembele during the January transfer window. The same source has stated that the Red Devils are hoping to bring the French striker to Old Trafford along with Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff in an estimated deal worth £90m.
Dembele’s Outstanding Goal-Scoring Record In French Football
The 23-year-old is currently one of the leading goal-getters in the Ligue 1 after he made a great start to this campaign. Dembele has found the back of the net on six occasions in seven appearances for Lyon in the French top-flight this season.
Since his move from Celtic last summer, the French frontman has scored 26 goals and grabbed six assists in 54 matches for the Ligue 1 giants across all competitions. He also had a terrific goal-scoring record for the Hoops, netting 51 goals in 94 appearances.
Dembele has also represented France at various youth levels but is yet to earn an international cap for his nation. However, if he can continue scoring goals for fun in the top tier of France this season, then it is likely that Didier Deschamps might call him up to play at the senior level before the European Championships next summer.
What Will The French Rising Star Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Dembele has decent pace in his locker, which allows him to dribble with the ball out of tight spaces and cause problems for the opposition defenders. He is a commanding presence up top as he can win a lot of aerial duels using his strength and power. The French talent can also hold the ball up quite effectively to link-up play with others around him.
What makes Dembele such an exceptional striker is his ability to score goals consistently at the highest level. Man United are yet to replace Romelu Lukaku who left to join Inter Milan earlier this summer. Maybe, Dembele could be an ideal replacement as he has shown that he can be a prolific goal-scorer in European football.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has currently got a lot of problems in the striking department with Marcus Rashford out of form and Anthony Martial out of action. Mason Greenwood has put in a couple of impressive cameos, but he is not yet ready for regular first-team starts.
Recruiting Dembele: Wise Move For The Red Devils?
Dembele could go a long way in solving Man United’s problems in the final third. The Frenchman will not only add a lot of goals to the Red Devils frontline but will also increase competition for places within Solskjaer’s squad. Therefore, it could prove to be a shrewd move for Man United if they can find a way to bring Dembele to Old Trafford in January.
