According to the reports from ESPN, Manchester United have joined the race to sign midfielder Boubakary Soumare. Reports (RMC Sport) in the summer had emerged that Everton were interested in the Lille midfielder. Along with them, Juventus and Wolves were also said to be keen. However, he stayed put at Lille as he wanted to stay with the French side for another year to play in the Champions League.
It is believed that Manchester United scouted him recently when Soumare faced Valencia in the Champions League. The 20-year-old has represented France at various youth levels and is currently an u-21 international for them. We think that Everton should be on the lookout for his signature to bolster their midfield.
Marco Silva has faced tremendous pressure of late due to his team’s poor performances on the pitch. The Toffees have been backed by their owners well in the last few windows with some exciting players coming in. However, they have struggled to produce the desired results on the pitch.
Soumare dubbed to be the new Pogba
Soumare is even being termed as the new Pogba because of his dynamic playing style. The midfielder stands in at 6ft2 and has the physical strength to dominate the midfield. His dribbling skills and ball control in tight spaces makes him a joy to watch, and it is understandable why some of the top clubs are interested in him.
The 20-year-old primarily features in the defensive midfield role, but he can play as a central midfielder as well. His technical ability and physicality will make him a hit in the Premier League and the Toffees need someone who can dominate in the middle after the departure of Gueye.
Gueye’s departure has been a big miss for Silva, and Morgan Schneiderlin hasn’t really been able to control the midfield. Andre Gomes has also been inconsistent so far. Souamre has a high ceiling of potential, and he is one to watch out for in the future.
Time for Silva to step up his pursuit for Soumare?
Wolves had reportedly put in a bid of €40m in the summer, but that was rejected. The midfielder is in the final year of his contract so he could be available for free by next summer. If possible, the Toffees should try to sign him in January, and we think that he could be available on a cut-price deal if he doesn’t go on to extend his contract. With him being just 20, Everton will have a gem on their hands. United have now entered the race, and Silva should step up and try everything in his means to lure Soumare to the Goodison.
