In a recent interview with El Mercurio (via Sport Witness), Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain has hinted at the possibility of extending Claudio Bravo’s stay at the Etihad Stadium by offering him a management role when his playing contract runs out at the end of this campaign. However, Begiristain also told El Mercurio that nothing has been finalised yet when he said (via Sport Witness), “We need a little time to confirm what we are seeing.
“We must remember that he’s been injured for a year and this is not seen in one or two months. After that time, we will make a joint decision, which depends on the two parties, because this is our decision and then his, but I want to make it clear that there is nothing settled. To this day, we are delighted with him.
“He’s preparing for the future. He could have gone to another club to play every game. Here he is taking all experience, collecting everything he has lived, especially in Barcelona and Manchester, to become a great manager.”
Bravo’s Remarkable Career In European Football
The Chilean keeper has enjoyed a fantastic playing career in European football which has been glittered with multiple trophies. He won the La Liga twice and the UEFA Champions League once during his spell at Barcelona. He has also won the Copa America twice with Chile during his international career.
The veteran goalie is in the twilight years and has begun to suffer too many injuries in recent years. Thus, it might be an ideal time for him to make the jump from being a football player to working on the management side of things.
Bravo has learnt a lot from one the best managers ever in Pep Guardiola and so the Chilean will fancy his chances of success if he tries his luck in football management. The 36-year-old is too old to play regular football which the Man City chiefs seem to have recognised.
Bravo Might Be Offered A Management Role: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Hence, promoting him to a coaching role could work out for all parties as Bravo would be able to gain some valuable experience working with Guardiola at the backroom. Much like how Mikel Arteta has grown his coaching reputation by acting as the assistant to the Man City boss, Bravo could use his experience as a player to succeed at the management level.
The Chilean custodian has been an inspiring presence in Guardiola’s dressing room, so he has all the makings to make a smooth transition to football management. The Citizens can also benefit from retaining a familiar face in Bravo who could motivate the squad and help them win more trophies in the coming years.
