Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah suffered an injury during his team’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday afternoon. The Egyptian international had to limp off after sustaining what looked like an ankle injury during the game against the Foxes. Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury’s late lunge brought Salah down in the latter stages of the contest. However, the Reds still went on to win via James Milner’s penalty in the 95th minute.
Jurgen Klopp was furious in his post-match press conference and voiced his concerns over the late challenge on Salah when he said (via the Liverpool Echo), “It was just a challenge which I really don’t understand.
“I don’t understand how he can do it, because the ball is far away.
“The player is in full sprint, to bring him down without the ball around, for me there is only one colour card. I might be the only one who sees it like this, but it is dangerous as hell.
“I don’t want to cause the boy any problems but he has to calm down. It’s not the first time. He’s a super player, he’s had super development at Leicester, but these kind of challenges… no.
“It’s not an obvious one where everyone says it’s a red. But from a football point of view, the ball is not a close, I don’t know how it cannot be (a red card).”
The Merseyside outfit are currently leading the Premier League standings heading into the international break after having emerged victorious in all eight of their league matches thus far. Klopp will be desperate to end Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a top-flight title. Therefore, losing Salah to injury will be a concerning bit of news for everyone associated with the historic club.
Salah’s Incredible Goal-scoring Record At Merseyside
Since moving from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, Salah has gone on to make 115 appearances for the Reds, scoring 77 goals while grabbing 32 assists across all competitions. He is yet to fire on all cylinders this season but has still managed to net six goals and create three assists in 11 matches on all fronts.
What Does The Egypt International Add To Klopp’s Team?
Salah is one of the quickest players in Europe, and his pace enables him to dribble past opponents and make his mark in the final third. On his day, he can be a match-winner as he can create chances out of nothing. The Egyptian wide player has already proven that he can be a consistent goal-scorer in the top tier of England having won the golden boot for the past two seasons.
Salah’s Injury Vs Leicester: Massive Blow For Klopp?
With matches coming thick and fast after the international break, Liverpool would not want to lose one of their best players to injury. Hence, it could turn out to be a massive blow for Klopp and his chances of securing a favourable run of results in the coming months.
Even though, the extent of the injury is yet to be determined, seeing Salah hobble off against Leicester was a worrying sight for the Liverpool faithful inside Anfield. Klopp will now hope that his star player can make a speedy return back from his latest injury setback.
