According to a recent report by the Scottish Sun, Liverpool sent a few representatives to catch Heart of Midlothian youngster Aaron Hickey in action against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers last weekend.
It is believed that scouts from Newcastle United, Arsenal, Southampton, Norwich City, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace were also present during that game (via the Scottish Sun). The same source has also revealed that both Manchester City and Rangers are keeping tabs on the Scottish teen sensation’s progress at Edinburgh.
Hickey’s Brilliant Rise To The Top Of Scottish Football
The talented full-back joined Hearts at an early age and is a product of their youth system. He also had a spell with the Celtic Under-17s but decided to seal a return back to Edinburgh on a free transfer back in 2018. Hickey has managed to break out as a first-team starter at the Tynecastle Park earlier this season and has also managed to put in a few eye-catching performances for Craig Levein’s side this season.
The 17-year-old has featured in 12 matches for Hearts this term and has scored one goal in the process. Hickey is also an influential member of the Scotland Under-17 team and has made three international appearances for them thus far.
What Will The Scottish Teenager Bring To Merseyside?
Hickey is pretty quick and agile, which helps him make some driving runs down the left flank. The Hearts whizkid can also pass the ball accurately and has got the vision to pick out some of his teammates in the final third. For a player who just turned 17 earlier this summer, the Scottish rising star has shown tremendous composure to put in a run of impressive displays for his club as a left-back.
If he can continue performing at the same level, then there is no doubt that a big club will move in for him sooner rather than later. Hickey should focus on improving his overall game throughout this campaign so that he can be a better version of himself next season.
Should The Reds Orchestrate A Move To Sign Hickey?
Liverpool will undeniably benefit from acquiring a full-back of Hickey’s incredible potential. Jurgen Klopp is yet to bring in a suitable replacement for Alberto Moreno who left the club in the off-season. The German head coach needs to recruit a young left-back who can be an ideal back-up to Andrew Robertson at Anfield. Therefore it makes a lot of sense for the Reds to grind out a deal to secure the services of the Scottish prospect next summer.
