According to a recent report by the Express, Liverpool are among a whole host of clubs hoping to secure the signature of Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach. It is believed that the Reds will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the Bundesliga anchorman (via the Express).
The Majestic Rise Of Zakaria In European Football
Zakaria came through the youth ranks of Servette before making a switch to BSC Young Boys in the summer of 2015. He made a name for himself in his homeland which earned him a move to Monchengladbach back in 2017.
The Swiss defensive midfield ace has gone on to feature in a total of 77 matches for the Bundesliga outfit, netting seven goals while creating four assists in all competitions. Zakaria has made a great start to this campaign after playing in 12 matches for Marco Rose’s side this term, scoring one goal in the process. On the defensive end, he has made an average of 2.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 0.8 clearances per game in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The 22-year-old has also represented Switzerland in 24 international matches and has registered three goals for his country thus far.
What Are The Swiss Midfielder’s Best Attributes?
Zakaria has decent pace under his belt and can make some driving runs from midfield. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box to box midfielder or put in a tireless shift as the right-winger if needed. The Switzerland international is a commanding presence at the centre of the park and can win most of his aerial duels with the opposition. He is also not shy about making a tackle so that he can win back possession for his team.
Is Zakaria The Right Choice For Klopp?
The acquisition of a player of Zakaria’s potential will be a massive coup for the Reds if they can find a way to win the race to land him in the coming years. He will be an ideal back-up to Fabinho and has even got the quality to be a starter alongside the Brazilian in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
Zakaria plays in a similar style to how N’Golo Kante operates for Chelsea, but he is yet to prove his worth at the highest level. There is no doubt that the Swiss sensation will be an excellent signing for the European champions so Klopp should try his best to bring him to Anfield soon.
