Tottenham Hotspur entertained Red Star Belgrade at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier tonight hoping to secure their first win of this UEFA Champions League campaign. Spurs began the match on the offensive and took the lead in the 9th minute via Harry Kane’s finish from close range. The North London giants doubled their advantage just seven minutes later when Heung-min Son scored to put some daylight between the two teams. It was Son who struck again just before half-time to hand Spurs a commanding three-goal lead on the night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men scored two more goals in the second half via Erik Lamela’s strike in the 57th minute, and Kane put the icing on the cake with his calm finish in the 72nd minute. The contest finished 5-0 in favour of Spurs after the referee blew the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the contest against Red Star.
GK: Paulo Gazzaniga – 6/10
He had a comfortable night in goal for the North London outfit. Gazzaniga did his job well when called into action and has a clean sheet to show for his efforts.
RB: Serge Aurier – 6/10
The Spurs full-back was a decent outlet going forward but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CB: Davinson Sánchez – 6.5/10
The Tottenham centre-back did the little things right which were enough for him to secure a shut-out at the back.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 7/10
The Belgian international was a commanding presence inside his own half and did well to snuff out the threat of the Red Star attackers.
LB: Ben Davies – 7/10
The Spurs defensive ace made a couple of vital interceptions for his side and put in a tireless shift down the left flank.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 7/10
The French midfield ace worked his socks off for his team and was not shy about getting dirty by making some well-timed challenges during the clash.
CM: Tanguy NDombele – 8/10
The Tottenham new boy had one of his best games for his new employers. He was a dominant presence for Spurs at the centre of the park and was a force to be reckoned with in the Red Star half.
RM: Erik Lamela – 8.5/10
The Argentine playmaker set-up up two goals in the first half and scored one himself in the second to cap off a fine performance in a Tottenham shirt.
CAM: Dele Alli – 7/10
The English attacker was a potent threat in the final third, but he ran out of gas towards the latter stages of the contest and had to be replaced by Pochettino.
LM: Heung-Min Son – 8.5/10
The South-Korean international scored with two classy finishes to help Spurs claim a dominant 5-0 win in front of their home supporters.
ST: Harry Kane – 9/10
The English striker was head and shoulders above everyone else on the field. He found the back of the net twice and put in a majestic display while leading the line for the Premier League giants up top.
Substitutes:
CM: Eric Dier – 6/10
He added some fresh energy to the Spurs midfield.
CB: Juan Foyth – 6/10
He played his role well after coming off the bench and helped his team keep a clean sheet.
CM: Giovani Lo Celso – 6/10
The former Paris Saint-Germain talent came on to put in a nice cameo for the final few minutes of the match.
