Rangers travelled to Dingwall to keep up to pace with Celtic in the title race, and that is precisely what they did as they registered a comfortable 4-0 win on the night against Ross County.
The home team showed good energy, to begin with, but Rangers always had more quality, and they soon started to dominate the proceedings. Ojo played a good one-two and set up Morelos after a good run. The Colombian scored from close quarter to get his 16th goal of the season. Ryan Jack soon added another as he unleashed a well-placed shot from the edge of the box. The Scottish international scored a similar goal again in the 37th minute where he beat Ross County’s goalkeeper comprehensively to make it 3-0.
Rangers continued to dominate the game in the second half. Ross County had little joy while going forward but they came close once as a long-range attempt took a deflection which hit the post. Morelos got his brace right before he was going to be substituted as he finished from a tight angle to make it four on the 71st-minute mark.
Here is how Gerrard’s men fared on the night.
Wes Foderingham 6
Hardly had anything to do in goal. Did a decent job with his distribution.
Filip Helander 7
Misplaced a few headers early on but got his act together after that. A comfortable game overall. Came close to scoring through a set-piece.
Connor Goldson 8
Was strong and decisive at the back and took care of any dangers that came his way.
James Tavernier 6.5
Provided his usual attacking outlet from the right. Enjoyed some excellent moments in the attacking third.
Borna Barisic 6
Over-hit a few crosses in the first half. Not his best game in recent times. Went off limping in the end which would be concerning for Gerrard.
Ryan Jack 9
Ran the show for Rangers as he was popping up everywhere on the pitch. Both his first-half goals would have made Steven Gerrard proud. Played with energy and did everything which is needed from a midfielder.
Joe Aribo 8.5
His neat touches and flicks were often too hot for Ross County to handle. Linked up play well and played some delightful one-two. His passing range was also impressive.
Glen Kamara 6.5
Had a slow start to the game but improved. Nothing too eye-catching but did alright.
Scott Arfield 7
Provided his usual endeavour and work ethic. Made runs between the channels and stretched up play.
Sheyi Ojo 7.5
Played a big part in setting Rangers’ first goal with a good run. Showed good work rate and was always willing to take on defenders.
Alfredo Morelos 8.5
Was at his best again as his movement and finishing were sharp. The first goal was a simple tap in but the second was a brilliant finish from a tight angle. Occupied the defenders and never allowed them to settle.
Substitutes
Andy Halliday 6
Filled in for Barisic and did a decent job at the back.
Jamie Murphy 6
Provided fresh legs on the pitch.
Jermain Defoe N/A
Wasn’t involved much after coming on.
