According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror (via the Daily Star), Liverpool have handed Mohamed Salah a dedicated rehab programme so that he can return to training ahead of the clash versus Manchester United later this month. The same source has also claimed that Alisson Becker has refused to take a break and is currently training with the club’s goalkeeping coach John Achterberg. It is believed that the Brazilian’s training programme will focus around extra conditioning on reaction time and kicking for the remainder of this international break (via the Daily Star).
Why The Injured Duo Is Working Hard To Return Vs Man United
Both players will be in a race against time to be 100% fit for the trip to Old Trafford to face off against the Red Devils. Salah has often struggled to find the finishing touch in front of the opposition goal this season. So the upcoming encounter versus Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men could be his ideal opportunity to return to his goal-scoring ways in Liverpool colours.
In contrast, Alisson sustained a calf injury against Norwich City in the opening weekend of this campaign. He has since been out of action for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp needs to be gentle with the Brazilian goalie as he cannot afford to risk aggravating his injury by rushing his comeback.
Adrian has stepped up to the plate in his absence and so the Merseyside club can choose not to start Alisson against Man United. At the same time, if the South American shot-stopper can prove his fitness, it could turn out to be a timely boost for the Reds after the international break.
How Important Is Salah And Alisson To Liverpool?
Salah has been a consistent goal-scorer for the European champions since his move to Anfield in the summer of 2017. Alisson is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football after he joined from AS Roma last year.
Both players will play a key role in determining whether Liverpool can end their long 30-year wait for a Premier League title. Klopp’s men have made a flawless start to this campaign thus far after winning all eight of their matches in the Premier League. Now it would be up to the senior players like Salah and Alisson to carry the mantle and establish a period of success at Anfield in the coming years.
Should The Reds Risk Playing Them At Old Trafford?
Klopp should not risk playing Salah or Alisson if he thinks that the duo are not prepared to feature in what is expected to be an intense and gruelling game versus Man United. However, if they can prove their fitness, there is no reason why the German should not unleash them against their arch enemies.
