23-year-old Scottish striker Jack Harper recently went on to indicate that he will be open (Daily Record) to an Old Firm move in the future. Harper currently plies his trade for Spanish outfit Getafe who signed him on a long term deal this summer. Getafe have sent the striker on loan to second-tier outfit Alcorcon for now.
Harper has represented Scotland at the u-19 level, but he is yet to play for the senior side. The forward was born to Scottish parents but grew up in Spain. The Scotsman had spent six years of his youth career at Real Madrid. The forward then had a brief spell with Brighton and Malaga before joining Getafe this summer.
Striker on playing in Scotland
The former Real Madrid youth prospect went on to reveal that his parents are Rangers fan, but he is neutral when it comes to Old Firm rivalry. The striker said, ”My parents are Rangers fans, I am a little more neutral. I like to watch the derbies for passion and intensity, but I do not choose a side. “I follow the league and more now Rangers have again become a strong team. The league is becoming more powerful.”
On moving to Scottish clubs he said, ”I don’t think about it now. I have 12 years left in my career, and anything can happen. In general, the Scottish Premiership is beautiful; it has mythical teams.”
Should Celtic be keeping track of Harper?
Harper is a versatile forward as he has featured on the flanks as well. However, he is more comfortable while leading the line. Last season, Harper spent his time with Malaga in the Spanish second division. He grabbed four goals and two assists in 25 games in the league. His scoring record wasn’t prolific, but Getafe decided to take a punt on him this summer.
The forward’s standout asset is his pace, and he can run at the defence. He can also make runs in between the channels to get in goal scoring positions. He was seen as an immense talent when he was with Real Madrid but the youngster never really managed to take the next step in his career. The jury is still out on whether he can get going at the top level.
Celtic require a striker, and we expect them to go after one in January. However, Harper is under contract with Getafe until 2024, so we don’t see Celtic making a move for him. Maybe the club can keep track of him for a possible move in the future if he manages to showcase some goal-scoring potential.
